COOL  I want a copy.

But, I think that title sees a little small, would have to stand out, that it caused a big impact. The illustration is very good ( for the illustrator).

Looks wonderful but I miss the name ELP (one of the pivotal symphonic rock dinosaurs from The Seventies) on the front cover. Does every collaborator get a free copy  ? Anyway, I am looking forward to it, I wish I had the time to write such a book  !

Jerry Lucky, author of “The Progressive Rock Files,” enumerates some of the elements that mark "progressive rock" :

“Longer songs, changes of tempo, mellotron, use of symphony orchestra,
words like “cosmic” or “philosophical,” etc.

If these are the elements that began the history of progressive rock began, then October 10, 1969 is the date that marks the true beginning of progressive rock, as KING CRIMSON’s “In The Court Of The Crimson King” smashed to pieces virtually every standard and norm of rock, in as “monstrous” a fashion as the hallucinogenic face on its cover (which was painted by 23-year-old English artist Barry Godber in 1969; Godber died of a heart attack the following year).

KING CRIMSON’s first album fused psychedelic with symphonic, electronic, experimental jazz, mellotron, new studio techniques, and even bits of metal and folk, to mark the birth of a mature, and extremely aggressive, “progressive rock” sound.

Around this time, other groups were starting to build unique, sophisticated and inventive "sounds," including GENESIS (then fronted by Peter Gabriel), CARAVAN, JETHRO TULL, PFM, PINK FLOYD, and SUPERTRAMP. Thirty years later, innumerable "progressive" groups would name these bands when laying claim to the heritage of "progressive rock".

I have this picture in my mind of all the proheads here sleeping right next to the publishing factory where they print this waiting in line to receive their copy - It will be like in the premier of Star Wars in the US. People will sleep in tents and fight over the last copies...

Think you would do better with say New Gibraltar's Progressive Rock Encyclopedia's definitions of progressive rock as a whole, than some English speaking market's best of that ignores the rest of the world's contribution during the 70's for instance.

Kinda like a the Worlds Best Beer Guide that only reviews American brewers and disregards Ale producers as a whole. On the Lame Brain side from my view.

A book on European prog came out in 1981 called  "Scented Gardens Of The Mind - A Guide To The Golden Era Of Progressive Rock In Europe 1968-1980"  By Dag Asbjornsen, Border line Productions, ISBN 1-899855-12-2. Not in print anymore as far as I know but features Scandinavian bands as well as bands from Eastern and Western Europe.
