They're all great, Queen II just edges our the rest.
These 5 are the only essential Queen albums.

My favourite Queen album is definately 'Sheer Heart Attack', I love all the early Queen albums. Their debut album had me addicted for a long time as the songs are so strong, And it had such a great sound! 'A Night at the Opera' is great, Especially 'The Prophet's Song'. I'd rate them something like this (subject to change) -
- Queen - ****
- Queen II - ****
- Sheer Heart Attack - *****
- A Night at the Opera - *****
- A Day at the Races - ****
Another album I love by Queen is 'News of the World', What an album ![](smileys/smiley32.gif)

I beg to differ, 'News of the World' has some of their finest songs. The amount of different styles on that album is shockin'. 'The Works' is a very good album too, Best album they had in the 80s. And of course 'Innuendo' is fantastic.

The first album will always be my favorite from Queen. Keep Yourself Alive, Liar, you get the idea.

Ha! I knew there was someone out there who liked The Works!! I'd agree that was there best 80's album. When it came out it was the album that inspired me to check out their earlier work.
As for their early albums, My vote goes to Queen II. 'White Qeen: As it began' and 'March of the Black Queen' are two of their greatest songs IMO.

I voted for "A Night...", although I, II and "Sheer Heart Attack" have their moments as well. I still remember buying "Bohemian Rhapsody" on a 45-vinyl-single and later getting the album. It was only after that that I got the earlier works, though I had heard (and loved) "Killer Queen" before.

I think 'The Works' is a very good album, It has some excellent songs, (Don't mock me) 'Radio Ga Ga' (When I seen Queen with Paul Rodgers a while back this was an absolute stormer), 'Keep Passing the Open Windows', 'Hammer to Fall', 'Is This the World We Created?' and one song that's more of a wacky sci-fi experiment but has some very interesting vocals 'Machines (Or Back to Humans)'

I grew up with early Queen: in the early Seventies I listened to Radio Caroline and Radio Northsea International, lying in bed with my pocket radio, suddenly I heard Seven Seas Of Rhye, Keep Yourself Alive and Killer Queen, unforgettable art-rock! Their eponymous first album is still my favorite one: it rocks, the tension between the electric guitar and the piano, the great vocals, the wonderful arrangements ... SUPERB![](smileys/smiley32.gif) !

In the Seventies Freddie Mercury made the statement that Queen would never use synthesizers .. this turned out to be a false promise in The Eighties!

A Night at the Opera was the first album I ever bought (on cassette) - as opposed to copying from friends, or the radio - so I still have a soft spot for it. I always liked the first 2 (Q & Q2) albums, although they both had a mixture of the very good & the twee...........that pattern continued, I think, with Races & NotW - then they got much worse!
I recently rebought Opera on CD, for nostalgic reasons - it's an album I like, or I'd like to like - but I've played it perhaps twice in three years........it's not dated well.........to my mind, it's like those films or novels we all pretend to like, or think we ought to like, but never actually watch or read.........we like the idea, and I like the idea of Opera, but (no longer) the actuality......... ![Cry](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif)
(edit comment): I feel there's a good 2006 album there somewhere, with the best bits from Q, Q2, Sheer, Opera, Races & NotW....
