Which of these very accomplished frontmen do you prefer. Do you like the pure energy of Cedric from The Mars Volta, the emotion of Jon Anderson, the presence of David Gilmour or the showmanship of the great Peter Gabriel or any of the above. I'd like to see your thoughts on who is your favourite?

tempted by Greg Lake and Jon Anderson but Peter Gabriel wins out for his mixture of vocal talent, songwriting excellency and amazing live shows.

From this list Peter Gabriel. Fascinating front man. He has it all: the emotion, the stage presence, a very original voice, even interesting choreography... he is one of those people that are really born to be front man. He always puts on a great show.

From the list I´d go for Peter Gabriel who always has new ideas for performing. I never saw him with Genesis but his soloconcerts has always been entertaining and with new ideas how to surprise the audience. I remember him disappearing from stage and when the spotlights finally found him he was sitting and singing in the lap of two women high up in the arena.

Another great performer but not on the list is Fish. Seeing a Fish-show is like being invited home to an old friend who has lots of great stories to tell you. A very friendly atmosphere!

And Jethro Tull. Ian Anderson practically defines the word "frontman"!

Actually, it must be said that when I saw VDGG live t'other month, Hammill seemed a bit awkward onstage. It looked like he didn't really know what to do with himself.

I had the same experience with your beloved Ian Anderson a few years ago when I attended a Tull concert  . He seemed really nervous, the poor bloke.

Still it was great to have been to a Tull concert. A dream come true at last.

From the list I vote for Gabriel..

I think the greatest frontman ever - trying to be objective- was Freddie Mercury. I'm not a huge Queen fan, but not only was he a brilliant vocalist, but I have never seen someone command an audience like him. He was a natural performer.

Jon Anderson is the only one from the list who I have seen live.

I'm quite a big fan of Yes, but without experiencing the others I don't want to vote.

Out of this list, and as a frontman rather than simply a singer, I'd say Peter Gabriel. I also agree about Ian Anderson, who's always been one of my favourites. However, Greg Lake has without any doubt the best voice.

Jon Anderson.

This list is too short and could be expanded.
I saw all of them live (except Zavala) and I vote for PG, but Ian Anderson, Freddie Mercury, Bruce Dickinson are worthy to be choosen too.
Unfortunately I never saw Hammill live.

Another possibly choice could be PFM's Franz di Cioccio that I saw the past year - a great frontman too.

JIM MORRISON!!!!!!!=GOD....

in prog id say roger waters. he was the creative mind of pink floyd and wrote compelling lyrics. David gilmour is NOT the frontman of PF

Syd Barret should be on the list. He was the heart of PF.

I must agree that Waters was the frontman. I think Gilmour was more influential and important in the music, but he doesn't have the forceful extrovert personality that Waters has. Waters has much more prescence on stage also. He's jumping around and screaming, while Gilmour is looking down and focusing on playing. Which is a good thing for the music, but it's not very good showmanship :) I voted for David though.

Syd was a very good frontman too.

The only one of those I've seen in concert is Zavala.  He was quite the frontman, though probably the best I've seen.
