I notice that quite alot of prog fans are usually musicians. To confirm

In my dreams I have been in a successful band for decades and command enormous respect among a huge fan base. In reality I dont amount to much really.. I did used to play the drums, but like with most things in my life I am unable to comit to anything or focus on anything. As a consequence I never seriously developed my playing style and never really made sufficient time to concentrate on the bands I was in. My advice to anyone under 25 who plays an instrument: Kick some f***ing arse!!! Never give up. Never take your eyes off the ball. Dont smoke dope. Never allow yourself to be in a position where you are looking back at your life wishing you had done just about everything differently, and NEVER put anything off until tomorrow. Yup - play guitar, bass and a bit of keys. I write and produce my own albums for friends and family, everything from rock, prog, ambient, folk, experimental. A right old mishmash of styles and influences, which mercifully I do not infilct on the outside world, but keeps me happy into middle age

I can play the guitar, learned about a thousand years ago. I also can play AT the piano. Thank God for Virtual Instruments, cuz I can write music - I just can't play my own compositions. Much like Blacksword, I started on Drums, even played in a number of bands in the 70's. Joined the Army, didn't practice, can't play worth a crap. Yes. Keyboards. Plus I try to write my own stuff, so it helps that I can kinda fool around on the bass, but even less so on the guitar. Luckily, getting a workstation is extremely helpful, but if you're not up for that, get a smaller controller and set your system up on a Mac or something. Oh, the wonderful world of keybords. |

I've played the guitar for four years now, but I'm really no good. I play bass in a small band and I'm going to buy an electric piano this month. ------------- Suritis: The Remembering. Hopefully we should appreciate that given points in time are not so significant as the nature of what is impressed on the mind, and how it is retained and used. |

Yeah, its a pretty subjective question... Because according to what i have observe, i found out that most people who really appreciate prog rock more are the ones that either: 1: Play a Musical Instrument 2: Have knowledge in Music 3: Able to write music 4: A musician As you see, i strongly emphasize the word Most.. I've noodled on a guitar from time to time, but unfortunately I've never commited to it. I can play the intro riff to Blue Oyster Cult's Don't Fear the Reaper, but little else...

Well, I played Alto and Tenor Sax and clarinette but I didn't like that. The sounds of sax just makes me sick, and not because I was the sax player, I just hate this sound :S . Now I want to learn how to play bass guitar because I think it's the coolest instrument in the world. It sounds sooooo intense ! So watch out for me, I'll be the next best bass guitarist on earth .. see you soon in concert |

Electric Guitar. I'm learning how I can, in home. I haven't got money for pay class. Now my life is divided in two sections: when I'm listening to music and when I'm making music. It's wonderfull กกก (well, sometimes I try to read a book or go to watch a good movie ------------- We were always be much human than we whish to be. |

Prog Rock fans are often musicians because it is a form of music that
is defined by the virtuosity of the players and/or the complexity of
the compositions. It is not as easily accesible to non-musician
listeners as simple music forms such as punk. I play the sax, guitar, and piano/keys. |

But I spend most of my time up in my room writing twenty minute epics, and then I have to deal with the frustration of people not wanting to be in a prog rock band. Every musical person I know doesn't like prog. |

I used to play piano when I was a young kid. Picked up a keyboard again
recently and have been attempting to better myself at that. Don't have any money for lessons, which is a bit of a disappointment. Started off with basic melodies from mostly video game music, then moved onto Camel and classical music. Still working my way up. Only been playing for a few months. I also played the violin as a boy, but I'm not sure how skilled I would be at that these days. I also compose a bit of my own stuff, but nothing too complex just yet. If any experienced keyboardists have any advice, I'd be happy to hear it~ |
