I didn't see a topic on this anywhere, but Peter Gabriel just performed John Lennon's "Imagine" during the Winter Olympics Ceremony. I didn't know about this, quite a surprise.
It was such a pretty thing to watch. Peter Gabriel sitting there at the piano, some orchestra members in the background, the 35,000 member audience full of lights and all of the athletes on the floor swaying back and forth. Brought a tear to my eye. Definitely the highlight of the ceremony.

and a shame that I probably just missed it... had been watching it
throughout the evening. However the Tull Isle of Wright 1970 thread
reminded me that I wasn't listening to any music so I turned the volume
down and let Tull assault my hearing hahahah. After
the Italian team came out, I gave up and turned it off. Nice
opening ceremony though. Not looking forward to NBC's coverage of
it though. Looks like we get tons of coverage of teenage dope
smoking snowboarders and drunkard skiers. Not to mention more
commercials than any man can stand.

It'll be rerun tons of times so you can catch it later, I'm sure. I'll be watching the Olympics for the short track skating, luge, curling, figure skating and hockey. It's a shame a lot of these are during the day when I'm at school.

I'm sure I'll catch it and some point. Thanks for the heads-up.
Back to NBC for a second. Some advice for them. It's a sports
event... leave the damn news division out of it. I can't tell you
how much I loved to hear about Iran's current political situation when
I'm tuning in the see the brotherhood of man engage in the friendly
confines of sport. If only for two weeks.... then again is that a
naive view of the world these days. Wrong thread I know,
just venting......

Beh... Sincerely I believe that it have not singer well (perhaps was excited?). Also Pavarotti I have not seems at the top. That "Vincerò" it did not convince myself! (Al Bano Carrisi today like today sings it determined better and the "Vincerò" a lot holds it more to long!!! [P.s.: I have the CD of Al Bano Carrisi and therefore the source is reliable!!!]). And the Italian hymn was magnificent with the little girl! This (More Luca Badoer with the Ferrari F.1) the true highlight of evening

Yes, I saw him. Actually I knew that he was going to perform (heard it in the radio), and what a great performance it was. The show was really nice, and Gabriel crowned the whole evening. Now just let's hope that Finland wil win many medals!

Gabriel was truly underpar, I enjoyed Pavarotti way more than Gabriel's uninspired attempt at Lennon. (which inspired me even less because of the talentless and talent-mooching Yoko Ono who is completely worthless and actually did more harm to the world of music than good) Gabriel is clearly passed his prime and also the orchestral version of imagine was not composed correctly as was very very weak in my opinion. gabriel's voice has obviously lost his edge and he sang the verses very very low, maybe the wrong key for him, but he did NOt do a good job with the song. Nevertheless I was semi-inspired and depressed that such a hopeful song could be played during such hopeless circumstances (middle east) and how such an idealistic song and event can be contrasted with the harsh real world that we are all living in.

Maybe a sub-par performance but Gabriel past his prime?
Have you heard UP? I think it's his best album.
