OK I have a confession to make  , when I put the list together I used my CD collection as a source for the information , in theory this sounds OK doesn`t it ?  wrong !!!!   you see I was playing my copy of Pagan`s mind and the CD wasn`t seen  as I collected the info ... so what happened was I missed Pagans Mind       I am so pissed at myself doing that   aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh     (in the end you can only select 25 bands theres no way I was going to fit all the prog metal bands I love in the one poll anyway)

100 at least maybe more .. when I put a poll together I try and spread the styles within each genre around, its debatable that Queensryche is a bona fide prog metal band (I know that) but because they get called prog metal a fair bit around here I felt due to their popularity it would make things more interesting by includng them,  same with Magellan , they are known as prog rock more so than prog metal.  My interests in ths are in trends of how people are thinking and their general attitude towards prog metal and what value it has in the prog community.

Way too difficult

I chose Kamelot - they get over-looked

Definitely Queensryche.

One of the first prog metal bands I would say, and with a discography containing only masterpieces, probably from The Warning to Promised Land.

Haha, I was scared when I did not see Opeth's name appear in the alphabetical order. Now that I saw them, and your post about how you listed the bands as you saw them in your collection, I am frightened to hear that some of your collection may be out of alphabetical order (I am really conscious about my cd order).

Threshold - but what a difficult choice. Ayreon was 0.00001 behind them and DT  the same. PoS,  Kamelot and  Savatage also up there

Tough Question if were are talking about just currently id say Opeth, but if we are taking their whole career into consideration id have to say Dream Theater.

I defiantly had overall enjoyment each band brings when I did this thing , not so much carer as some of these bands have short carers, not even how progressive each band is , just good old fashioned enjoyment they bring to the listener   I couldn`t state the question as what band makes you happy ?  or could I ?

As I said at the start of this Poll  only 25 bands could fit .. sure bands like Evergrey and Spiral Architect deserve to be here but unfortunately I couldn`t fit them in and still maintain a nice even spread of diverse prog metal trends reflective and useful for collecting the right information on how prog metal relates to prog rock (which is what I`m trying to understand here) ... some bands had to be sacrificed , and I regret that as wel l...  sorry  again

Rush are one of my favourite bands I even consider them to be  one of the first true prog metal bands and definatly desearve to be on the list. But I feel that bands like Rush and Dream Theater  will always run away with all the votes and ruin things as far as research information goes.  Its the problem with all these Polls,  mention certain bands in the poll and the data you get back is un reliable.  Stll I knew what would happen when I mentioned DT in the poll but I can`t help but wonder what people who voted DT`s second preferance would have been ?  and I`m sure if I mentioned Rush they would have probably been very stong in the poll as well

Even being an "old guy stuck in the 70s"  I know and listen to almost all listed bands (thanks also to my 15 yo son). My vote goes to Symphony X, followed by Opeth and Angra.

After listening to Nevermore many times I have always considered them to be progressive metal no there is doubt about it, in fact on their first CD they push progressive boundaries further than great bands  like Tool and Opeth ever have (my opinion but its well researched)  listen to some of the mind blowing time signatures on their debut CD "the politics of Ecstasy for reference to my remarks. The other thing with Nevermore is their lyrics they are not at all politically correct,   just brutal honesty without fear of how the public feels about it

Right now I'm really into Pain of Salvation.  I listened to the sample on PA of Beyond the Pale, and it is enough to make me want to buy the album.  I love it.

Besides PoS I like Dream Theater, Tool, Riverside and Opeth.

I just wanted to point out that Opeth, Dream Theater, and Pain of Salvation all have many more votes than Tool.

And where is Riverside? Their last album was "prog Metal" for sure.
