Actually Lamb isn't one of my favourite albums but undoubtedly it is a home to some of the best Genesis songs ever. The first time I heard 'Back In N.Y.C.' it blew me away.I love the way the drums are played on this and the keyboard sounds are very original.That's even before talking about the lyrics such as ''Your progressive hypocrites hand out their trash,but it was mine in the first place ,so I'll burn it to ash.'' Difficult choice I know but go on... pick one. |

Not my favourite by Genesis either, but as you say, it does have some good tracks. Actaully, "Back in NYC" is my least favourite, I never "got" that one at all. It didn't help that my vinyl copy, which was certainly well played, skipped right at the start of that track, so I always think the track goes "I see places and traces Oback in New York City". I clicked on "In the cage", then remembered "Carpet Crawlers" just in time to go for that. Gabriel's vocal on "CC" still sends shivers up my spine. |

The Lamb is my joint favourite Genesis album along with 'Trick of the tail' I chose 'In the cage' after some careful consideration. It was a tough choice as there are so many brilliant songs on this album. 'In the cage' for me is one of the most exciting pieces of rock music ever recorded. Tony Banks' riffing hammond organ and blinding keyboard solo make it so. As well as the intensity of Gabriels performnce. Classic! ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

Favorite Songs on The Lamb: The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, Fly on a Windshield, Cuckoo Cocoon, In the Cage, The Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging, Back in N.Y.C., Hairless Heart, Counting Out Time, Carpet Crawlers, The Chamber of 32 Doors, Lilywhite Lilith, Anyway, Supernatural Anesthetist, The Light Lies Down on Broadway, Riding the Scree, and It. "Slippermen" makes me cringe. I voted for In the Cage, but Carpet Crawlers, The Chamber of 32 Doors, the title track, the Grand Parade, and It come dang close. This album is a post-modern work of art! |

very tough choice, I like almost every song on the album, specially Fly On A Windshield, Broadway Melody Of 1974, The Grand Parade Of Lifeless Packaging, Back In N.Y.C., The Chamber of 32 Doors, Lilywhite Lilith, Here Comes The Supernatural Anaesthetist, The Colony Of Slippermen, Riding the Scree, It, but I would choose Here Comes The Supernatural Anaesthetist - some great solo here ------------- We shall live forever and cast out those less divine Gods we will be - rulers of the sea - in our Grand Design |

Back in NYC is fantastic, the highlight of the album for me although I agree with richardh in that it isn't one of my favourite Genesis albums either. Jeff Buckley covered this song on the demo section of his posthumous album 'My Sweetheart The Drunk'. Very lo-fi, very surreal I'm quite keen on the 'Chamber of 32 doors' if only for the line 'I'd rather trust a county man, than a town man'. Pro fox Hunting Mr Gabriel

Very good too. And how a cover should be done: deconstruct, put something of your own in, don't completely lose the essence of the original but say something new without detracting. Too many covers are lame reproductions of the originals. For another case study, check out (Buckley's mentor) Gary Lucas's interpretation of Zappa's King Kong, retitled Guerillas In The Midst.

I love it!!!There was this German Radio Station and they got a listeners Poll. And one day In 1975 I heard this beautiful song, which was on top of the poll, from a group I never heard of before. There was this strange, eary keyboard intro and then suddenly the voice :"The crawlers cover the floor..." I got the record for Christmas and I still remember hearing it on a cold winter night in my room! After Christmas i heard it for one year EVERY single day after school. I don't listen too often to it now, but when I do it still runs chivers along my spine. The last time, when I bought the nice Genesis Box set with the entire show. |

I DID A COMMENT WHEN IT WAS THE TOPIC OF MY FAVORITE GENESIS MOMENT (OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT)...AND I MENTIONED AMONG MANY OF SOME GREATEST MOMENTS THE PIANO WORK OF THE CARPET CRAWLERS...THIS SONG, ALONG WITH THE LAMIA AND THE CAGE, IS MY FAVORITE OF ALL THE RECORD. ------------- Democracy=A form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people...

Not one of my favourite Genesis albums either! Never really been able to get into it especially after the triumph that was "Selling England" I found Lamb was a bit disappointing-not enough music I think! Whisper it, but I think they over-stretched themselves with this one.Lyrically I think it is a case of "The Emperor's New Clothes Syndrome"-I mean my degree was in English Literature so I'm used to analysing prose and verse, but I find it largely indecypherable. When it comes to people having to click on hyperlinks to be given the "official meaning" on this site, well that tells you something! Given that this is a work of popular art the meaning shouldnt be so difficult to work out.Therefore one can fairly conclude that it is esoteric nonsense. However favourite track-I've always liked Carpet Crawlers, Peter's vocals are exquisite. -------------

I voted on that beautiful, eerie symphonic ballad 'The Lamia': it's so romantic, and so sinister at the same time, with the unearthly landscapes of 'Silent Sorrow...' serving as a proper postlude. It's not only the most impressive track in the album (IMHO), but it's also located in the right place of the repertoire. The lines 'only a magic that a name would stain' are sung with an incredible sense of vulnerability and sensuality... Regards. |

TLLDOB is very far from my favorite one. I wrote one of the best review of mine regarding this record. The best track is Hairless heart! |

| I'm not really surprised with the results so far.Carpet Crawlers and In The Cage were always going to be popular choices.I'm slightly surprised though that no one has gone for the title track.Almost a perfect opening track.I could say the same for It as an end track as well. |

I dont really think there is a duff track on the first three sides (vinyl speaking) and the last side is at least ok IMO. I think some of their greatest songs appeared on this album. They must have been surprised and dissapointed when it only reached number 10 in the UK album charts (only ), after SEBTP reached 3!!------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

In the cage is my choice.Once Ivan 2068 said that LLTOB album is when the prog reach a perfection.I think it's true.The album is really the summit of prog rock,however it's not my genesis favourite album.

I voted for Back in NYC,just a great song,Gabriel's phrasing and delivery on that song give me goosebumps.Shaun Guerin did a really good version of the tune and the Kevin Gilbert/Giraffe version of the song,played lived at Progfest 94 is one of the best versions of that song I have ever heard. -------------  |
