There aren’t very many women in progressive

Music but there is a few I can think of, Kate

Bush, Heather Findlay and Ayreon uses lots

Of female guest singers.

My band is a female fronted prog metal outfit. we are called 7th floor. theres us, another pretty local band named to-mera, but thats about it i think!

If you'r intersted, give us a listen at http://www.myspace.com/7thfloorband - www.myspace.com/7thfloorband .  I recomend 'the somnambulist' for the true prog fans. Its 9 mins long and some of the lyrics are in another language. hahaha!

Enjoy, and please, let me know what you think. [email protected]

When I read or here commments such as this one, I just thing one thing: ¿nobody has a mother, sister, or even a girlfriend?. I mean, first of all, there must be a million of reasons for someone to be noticed, far more important than looks. Second, if someone says to me "Hey, your mother / sister / etc. is HOT", I will have to deliver some kicks... ¿seriously, you can't think of any other reason to mention this lady? ¿perhaps a more repectfull one?...

Sylvia Erichsen, formerly of White Willow, she has an amazing voice (and doesn't look all that bad either).

Try the following:

Curved Air / Art bears / News from babel / Some Mahavishnu orchestra / Some Chick Corea (same leading lady on the last two) / Magma of course, with the powerfull vocals of Stella Vander. Then, you could move to some not so prog experimental music, Meredith Monk (she's a genius), Laurie Anderson (I just have "Big Science", wich is pretty good), Fulano, from chile, Sigur Rós (perhaps the greatest band ever).

Good luck.

I like their music.  I have Choirs, and Dowsing is on order.  Good enough?

But, I guess you've never looked at somebody's mother, sister, or girlfriend and thought man I'd like to, um, make some beautiful music with her nudge nudge wink wink

Check out Mia's journal here:  http://coelacanthm.livejournal.com

And an interview with Mia here: http://bitchingandmoaning.org/archives/2005/06/kayo_d ot.php where she talks about classical musicians in Boston being stuck up.

Nothing wrong with admiring women for beauty

My favorite women in progressive rock are Anglagard's  flutist Anna Holmgren and Anekdoten's Anna Sofi Dahlberg on cello, mellotron, and vocals.

This touches on another issue re women in prog.As many prog fans are male (99% ,maybe??) its quite a good way to gain attention and interest by fronting a prog band with a nice looking lady. Can't do any harm can it? After all prog is part of the entertainment business even though many would like to believe its a lot more serious than that and that we are uncovering the secrets of the universe

Anyway I would also mention Christina of Magenta.Lovely looking lady with a great voice!

There have been literally hundreds of women in progressive rock and
progressive metal over the years, from countries as diverse as
Liechtenstein, Estonia and Panama. A good rummage through this site
should reveal information about many of them.

Well, will never agree. First of all, "Beauty" is a concept that changes with the time. Then, "beauty" might be perceived as something of value, but I'll never admire someone based on that concept. Perhaps I'm one of a kind. I don't care. "Hot" is not a parameter to consider.

In fact, there were two women in Renaissance. Jane Relf was their first singer and she was followed by Annie Haslam.

LOL - hot is not a parameter to consider?  It's not only me that disagrees with you - like about 99.9% of the straight male population...

So what if beauty's a concept that changes over time?  Admire it while you can.  Stop thinkin' so much!
