Deliverance of course. It was intended to be their heaviest album. My Arms, Your Hearse comes 2nd.

Still Life.

Deliverance contains much more mellow parts than Still Life, and on Still Life the mellow parts have a much darker mood than on the other Opeth albums - I think it's because the underlying story is really dark.

But you don't usually judge the heaviness of an album by it's mellow parts. I find Still Life a great album, but not that heavy - the rhythm guitars ,in particular, frequently sound kinda weedy.

I agree that Still Life is DARKER (my favourite along with B.Park) but Deliverance is HEAVIER

My Arms Your Hearse is, IMO, the best example of Opeth.  Everything they've done since has been to match that standard and vary it somewhat.

Good point! I think that it's a good album to get to know Opeth, as it contains both elements of their early music and hints of what's to come later.

You can edit posts when you make an error. There's a button at the bottom of your post that says "edit."

Since we're polling this sh*t, I do believe that my vote goes to "Damnation". This is by the way one of the most f**ked-up poll you freaks've managed during my time here.

Erm, okay. Ghost Reveries is a great album no doubt, but in no way is it heavier than Deliverance.

Come to think of it, I was wrong; this one actually says something about how people listen to music, the others just ask for preferance.

For me its Orchid because its their most obvious, stereotypical death metal album. From Morningrise they explored there prog, space rock, pyshcedellic influences but put them into the death metal mold.
