I like Yes more because I like more melodic music.

from my experience, the general public (prog public included) tend to prefer Yes because they are more melodic/harmonic, whereas KC is experimental and often aharmonic and weird.
I like Crimson, tho.  Yes's sound is copied more often.  KC is impossible to duplicate.

yeah yes is more melody based...it's odd.

if you think about it they both arose around the same time and branched off into two different types of prog, crimson mroe experimental and yes more melodic. which defiantely influened the little schisms musically we have amongprogressive music.i definately like teh crimson side of teh spectrum more though...although don't get me wrong...i still like yes...

To me, it's clear: these are two of te two of the best prog bands.  I think that KC have way more good albums than Yes: I would say 10 fot KC (ITCOTCK, ITWOP, SABB, Red, TPTB, LTIA, Islands, Thrak, Lizard, Discipline, maybe some more I forgot) and 5-6 for Yes (The Yes album, CTTE, Relayer, Fragile, TOTO, TAAW).  Yes had an enormous decline at the end of their career with some albums that I don't have to mention, while KC still impress with their last album.  Yes sounds oftenly the same, but King Crimson changed so many times the way to compose an album.  But Yes made 2 perfect albums that are absolutely not overrated, to me: CTTE and Fragile.  But I think that KC are also more important into prog history...

Definetly King Crimson. I can't agree that they aren't melodic, it can not be generealised. For examle at In the Court of the Crimson King there are a lot of beautifull melodies. Later albums are too but melodies are hidden - if you listen carefully then You hear them.
I think Yes are easiel to listen and understand.

King Crimson. They didn't fall as hard as YES did during the 80's. So, you have much more to listen to on King Crimson's discography. Even their "bad" albums (Beat, Lizard) are quite more listenables than YES bad albums, wich are actually a pretty horrible experience for any YES fan. I do like Yes, but I think their cappabilitie to grow was very limited. King Crimson is always presenting something new, actualized, without offering themselves to any market requirement...

King Crimson managed to keep they're integrity throughout the years and continue to progress and make new interesting music. Yes kinda just faded away and made alot of really cheesy bad music. Although I do enjoy Allan White's drumming, I'd have to say when Bruford left Yes they pretty much went down the poopchute.

Well King Crimson is my favorite band, or is it Led Zeppelin? Well, still, my favorite prog band is King Crimson, and my second favorite prog band is Yes...so my vote goes for KC

Its true they never went down the hill, while Yes did in the 80...and maybe even some of the 90 stuff also...But recently I purchade the Tsongas DVD from Yes...and was impressed how good it was, and relieved to know that this band can still do it!

I went with Yes mainily because they're more melodic and crimison just sound a too weird for my liking at times. I still do like some crimison though, I just like Yes a hell of a lot more!

I couldn't decide.  On one hand I love Epitaph, Starless, In the Wake of Poseidon, etc., but on the otherhand I love To Be Over, CTTE, And You And I, etc.

Interesting how Yes always comes out on top in general polls like "Greatest Prog Band", but they are defeated by quite a bit in this poll.

I voted for KC. I do like a lot of Yes' work, however I find Crimson far more enjoyable on every level. In general, I prefer KC's moody dissonance over Yes's melodicism. That's not to say I don't love Crimson's more melodic moments, or Yes's more esoteric experiments. KC just combines pretty much everything I love about music in their sound, or they have over the years. The genius of Robert Fripp will NEVER cease to amaze me!

Sorry, I don't know why but I can't stand King Crimson...
But Yes is a band I like a lot. Good keyboard- and guitar-works by Rick Wakeman and Steve Howe. My respect!

Edge to Yes on two counts...

Out of this world vocal harmonies, and Chris Squire's Rickenbacker.

Yes but it doesn't surprise me that KC is ahead of Yes. In part I think this is not just because of the esoteric more experimental elements of KC over Yes's melodic/symphonic output but that more younger prog fans who are attracted to Metal/heavy roots would relate more to KC's output than Yes.

I love both Yes and King Crimson, but I have to give the edge to Yes because I find their music spiritually uplifting. However, sometimes the darker, edgier music of KC fits the bill!

I voted Crimso

Personally I find Crimson to be much more diverse and and had a much more real or natural feeling, I love Yes also but KC always wins me over.

Two of my favorite bands but right now I would have to side with King Crimson.  Whereas Yes went downs hill with time and turned into something that I can not tolerate, King Crimson kept reinventing itself with changes that I really enjoy.

gotta be the KC, just for sheer body of work... yes produced some dodgey work in the 80s (much as I love the earlier stuff), but KC just keep getting better! and they never compromise.

King Crimson are probably my favourite band of all time so definetly king crimson because they have the ability to be noisey, ugly and experimental and still be very melodic. While yes were probably the first prog band i listened to i think there great but no where near as experiental or creative IMO

hmmm....

experimental was not Yes's calling card.... we'd all agree with that.

but I don't think melody was  King Crimson's either....  especially the middle era.

A wash in my book if trying to compare the two.

Although I really enjoy many of Yes' albums, I think King Crimson were/are more original and never really had a "bad" or uninspiring period.  Example: Yes from 1980- 2002

oh really......  since when does different equate to bad or uninspiring.  Sure if you compare those albums to their peak 70's they suffer in comparison.... but what doesn't.  Yes put out great albums in the 80's, 90's, and the ..... 00's.  Were there stinkers in there.... of course..... but over the course of a nearly 40 year career you've earned the right to have a few... and only a  few is what they did.
