What bands and/or songs make you want to start learning an instrument? Which instrument?
For me, Jethro Tull makes me want to play flute, and Magma makes me want to play drums

Ruth Underwood (from Zappa's band) makes me want to play the vibraphone. And I agree with you on Magma!

Nothing really...I prefer focusing of classical rather than prog...and
I formed my tehnique and abilities these 6 years through classical
music...prog on the other hand is just for fun,for improvisating or
just spare time playing...spare time pleasure...

Mars Volta makes me want to play, uh... electronics and noise effects?
Well, I would like to play that sort of thing.

There are so many inspiring musicians! I'm also one of those greatly impressed by Ian Anderson's flute. Rush members also have to be mentioned. Neil Peart makes me want to buy drums and Geddy Lee a bass. Tony Banks, Richard Wright and Mark Kelly make me wish I had more time and talent to be able to play the keyboards much better. As I already play the guitar, David Gilmour still gains my respect, as well as Andy Latimer and Steve Rothery and numerous great guitarists outside prog. I also love the sound of a violin, but I don't have any special favourite fiddlers.

Danny Carey on Lateralus, Bill Bruford on Red, John Theodore on De-Loused In The Comatorium and Josh Freese on Mer De Noms were my first image of the energy of the drums. Now I have 1 year playing drums.

Oh don't do that, flute is for sissies. Unless it's jazz-flute, then it's chillin'.

I started to learn how to play guitar because of Progressive rock as a whole. I would like to learn more instruments, for example drums or piano, but it's too expensive.

I was originally inspired to learn guitar by David Gilmour. I even subconsciously(?) copied his mannerisms for years, from the closed mouth smiles to the determined, look down and scowl slightly at the floor while soloing thing.

Sound Chaser, every instrument seems like it soloing through out the whole piece. Makes me have to get up and grab my nearest instrument, whether it be bass, acoustic, or my big WurliTzer church organ, (that I am very proud of ). It's also from the sixties so it's totally vintage!

Bill Evans made me want to learn piano, though he's jazz, not prog, so
I'll say Rick Wakeman made me want to play keyboards to be on
topic .
