....doesn't like Fragile by Yes? I like Relayer, Time and a Word and Close to the Edge, I just can't stand Fragile. Which is weird cause I like most of the prog from that time period, the late 60s up to the mid 70s.

I love both of them.. Tales and Fragile. But I can't see why anyone who likes prog would not like Fragile... very strange!

That's interesting.I've always thought Fragile was slightly out of character for Yes.It's much more hard edged and darker than other Yes albums especially the songs 'Heart of The Sunrise' and 'South Side Of The Sky'.One of the things I've always liked about Yes is their 'positiveness'.Fragile seems to lack some of that. However it's still a 5 star album for sheer musical brilliance alone.

You know what...I do not find it strange at all. I have Fragile and it's okay but I do not think it is the brilliant album album everyone else thinks it is. For some reason it just doesn't catch me. Really all it is are a few musical interludes sandwiched betwen some okay(not great) tunes and those interludes seem like noodling to me...except that short exquisite guitar piece...that I like. I would love to go on and on about each piece but I have to shove off to work soon here.....

I concur Fragile is IMO a weaker album than CTTE, TFTO and Relayer. I also like Drama, GFTO and Tormato! more and the Yes album and the very much later "The ladder". Fragile does have some good moments on it but I never play it because I have a finite listening time which at the moment is being used to explore new bands!

I love all the Yes collection up to and including Drama, after which I cut them out of my life for a long time. At 16 I'd finally got tickets to see my favourite band and they went and released 90125. The gig, NEC, Birmingham, was the worst gig I'd ever seen, and that includes 'Sabbath with Gillan, which at least had comedy value!
Fragile is just great. It sits perfectly between TYA and CTTE. My first two Yes albums were Fragile and GFTO, which between them, sum up all that was great about preRabin Yes.

While I would never say I don't like "Fragile", I do rate it below Yes' other output from that period (sorry FRAGILE, I appreciate I am guilty of heresay! ). The problem I have with it is that it sounds disjointed because of the solo spots. If they'd left them out, and put in another 7-10 minute classic, it would have been right up there with the others.
The group tracks are wonderful though.

I don't find Fragile as one of Yes' better albums either, I don't see it as a concept album like CTTE and Relayer. But as fellows have already pointed out, there are some brilliant track with Heart of the Sunrise as one my favourite Yes songs. Roundabout, South Side and Long Distance are excellent too!

maybe you ain't quite got into it yet. Do you like roundabout? thats very similar to close to the edge style stuff. Maybe you are put off by some of the shorter tracks? just listen to roundabout, heart of the sunrise, mood for a day and south side of the sky and see what you think of them.

While Fragile had some of the greatest songs that Yes has ever written(Roundabout, South Side Of The Sky, etc), it also had a lot of weak tracks thrown in between all the strong ones. As Easy already stated, the album sounds disjointed by all these 'filler' tunes, and it does turn me off of the album sometimes when playing it. However, it is a good album, but it's not as good as what came before, and what was to follow(up until Drama.)

Yeah, i feel the same way. I like roundabout and a few others...but overall, its maybe 3 stars out of 5, and thats pushing it.

I agree, 3 stars would be all I would give it as well. It's a shame not too many people like Tormato; I actually rank it in my top 5 fav Yes albums, and it sounds to my ears like a strong and consistent effort by the band. 'Release Release' should have been a hit, in a perfect world.

Prog rocker 'roundabout' 'south side of the sky' 'long distance' 'heart of the sunrise' are classic yes tracks there is nothing on tormato to compare. How you and carl have arrived at this particular junction is very curious but it takes all kinds.

yes is my favorite band. im a an absolute fanatic. And yes (god im retarded) i dont like fragile eaither. I think i dont like it because it sounds like too pop like and not like yes when they dwelved into longer songs. it sounds like a crappy close to the edge, i think. but fragil is better then alot of other bands best albums, i think. you really shouldnt take note of me, im to obsesst with yes, it interfers with my jugdment...

I must agree with most that has been said about this topic
Fragile is a milestone album, and it has cleared the way for a broader audience to get to know about progmusic. But that doesn't make it brilliant.
Indeed, the musical intermezzo's seem a little out of place sometimes (five percent for nothing sums it up), but the rest of the album is quite good especialy Heart Of The Sunrise and south side Of The Sky make fragile a great album, As for Roundabout, I think it's overplayed on radio and live recordings (Is there a Yes Live album without it) and like Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen which is a great song I can't listen to it anymore.
