I thought it would be fun to get the new year started with a new game. This one hopefully requires a bit of knowledge of music (or the ability to navigate Google!).

The Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game requires players to start with a person, then in six steps or less, make connections that link that person back to Kevin Bacon. For example,

Kevin Bacon to Nicole Kidman

1. Nicole Kidman was married to Tom Cruise
2. Tom Cruise starred in Rain Man with Dustin Hoffman
3. Dustin Hoffman starred in Finding Nerverland with Kate Winslet
4. Kate Winslet had a role in The Life of David Gale, which starred Lara Linney
5. Laura Linney was in Mystic River with Kevin Bacon

But I'm proposing much simpler rules here. The idea is simply to maintain a thread where the next person named is related somehow through music to the one before.

So, for example, if I started with Ronnie James Dio. The next person might say Gary Driscoll, who played drums in Elf, Dio's first band. The next might say Terry Lutrell, vocalist for Starcastle, a band Gary Driscoll toured with as a percussionist briefly in the early 70's.

Anyone game? Gotta' be a bit more challenging than daisy-chaining song names together.

Let's start with Mike Pinera, since he's kind of a Kevin Bacon of 60's and 70's music anyway. Guitarist for Blues Image, Ramatam, New Cactus Band, Alice Cooper, Iron Butterfly, and the Spencer Davis Classic Rock All-Stars.

Shouldn't be hard to connect someone to Mike Pinera musically (Spencer Davis doesn't count since I already used him).

Dave Mustaine to Steven Tyler (Aerosmith)

1. Dave Mustaine was a member of Metallica before being fired in 1983.
2. Lars Ullrich was founding member and drummer for Metallica.
3. Skylar Satenstein is married to Lars Ullrich.
4. Skylar previously dated Matt Damon.
5. Matt Damon had a role in the film Jersey Girl which starred Liv Tyler.
6. Liv is Steven Tyler's daughter.
