Both truly great albums, but Dark Side is better. I prefer
Gilmour and Water's vocals to Ian Anderson's. Also, Thick as a
Brick can be too repetitive at points. It also may help that
Floyd is one of my all time favorite bands. Still, they are both
classic albums and masterpieces. |

Im not gonna vote coz I like both, Dark side for the way it was created and how it opened up and created new techniques in the creation of albums that are now nothing new in todays recodeing of albums and Thick simply because it rips the piss out prog and the genres generally large and expansive ego. Another way is like this: Dark side is like BBC news: High brow and now a national institution Thick is like Dead Ringers: Funny, truthful, 'mockery is the best form of flattery.' ------------- Prog is music for the mind Hear your Orphaned child! I rank most of the other Pink albums higher than The Dark Side.

Thick gets a little to boring sometimes due to the repetition as already mentioned above. Darkside is much more comfortable to listen to for me, and I like the "sad, dark", (pun intended), lyrics better than Ian's. Thick as a brick is miles ahead. Dark side of the room shouldn't even been mentioned next to a complex masterpiece such as Thick as a brick. Dark side is so overrated. It only has 3 strong tunes, the first 3 tracks on the album. |

You should know that for many like myself, complexity doesn't matter at all when it comes to what moves you, that's all that matters in music, if it moves you, not if it takes a Mozart to write. I feel happier when listening to DSOTM, I feel bored when listening to TAAB. I can't stand the great gig in the sky or Any colour you like. They must come 1000th on my all time fave prog instrumental ratings lol. Money is a pop song. Just like the song Wish you were here. A pub pop song

Pop is bad your saying? Even if it is good the fact that something's pop means it is terrible? I don't think any of the songs are pop, even though they were popular, and I like the instrumentals Great gig and Any colour you Like, both are enjoyable for me. Great Gig is the best song on the album IMO. Richard Wright's best song ever. | Some great comments but I have to agree you really can't chose. However on a level of just which album I find myself listening to more often it is Dark Side Of The Moon. A true classic in the truest sense of the word. Now as for the drumming. I too am a drummer and I do not listen to albums like Dark Side Of the Moon for the drumming. If I want to hear drumming I will listen to Buddy Rich Live in London, or Return to Forever's Album Where Have I known you before with Lenny White on drums. Now if you really want to hear a drummer who sounds like he is playing on a combination of steroids, adrenaline, and speed, just listen to Billy Cobham's Spectrum album. |

What's neo, or pop about it. The fact that it was popular doesn't mean it is pop music. They didn't intend on making a popular album. They didn't give the mainstream what they wanted like all other pop music does. obscured by clouds is better than dark side, so is meddle and animals. Dark side is one of my weaker floyd albums

I live in Vancouver BC, Canada and am 17. As you know, I was not alive to see the creation of such excellent music, but I DID have the pleasure to see Jethro Tull last October in the States They played a shortened (wish they would have played the whoel thing) version of Thick as a Brick and I had snuck up to the front for it. Let me say, it was AMAZING! holy sh*t. What an excellent album it is, the melodies suit Anderson's voice perfectly, the whole feeling of the thing is just excellent. PS with the whole matter of Dark Side of the Moon being pop: that is ridiculous, anyone should know of all bands Pink Floyd was simply putting out THEIR music. For christ's sake, Money is in 7/4 time and it has about 3 minutes of solos (sax and guitar) right in the middle. What's so overly pop about that? |

| Both albums which I rate just short of masterpiece standard (I gave both 4* but reckon they come very close to 5*). Thick as a Brick is more musical to me and I like the concept though Dark Side is more experimental and has some great high points. On balance Thick as a Brick by a small amount. |

Why has everyone have to say so and so album is overrated. If it is expected by a large crowd of Progressive Rock fans as a classic, it is a classic! I'd chose Dark Side of the Moon, because I like Pink Floyd better as a band, but Thick as a Brick is a brilliant release and it showcases Tull at its finest! |

For me JT have only 2 great works: "Aqualung" & "Thick as a Brick". But they are very inferior to any 70's album by PINK FLOYD... |

2 great works? Heavy horses (full session) , Dotcom and A are better than Aqualung. So are about 6 other albums sessions. But the Aqualung full session is one of the best. Pink floyd aren't capable of playing something like Thick as a brick, so floyd are way off  . They even had to hire a drummer to play comfortably numb for the wall album, because Mason couldn't keep up lol. Pink floyd are not a top 5 prog band. Tull are twice as good as most of you think

How is there any comparison? Look at the musicianship, the arrangement, the sophistication of each. Thick as a Brick towers over Floyd. I've never heard Nick Mason do anything even remotely close to the work Barrie Barlow did on any Tull album. Plus Ian runs circles around Waters as a frontman. A monkey could play bass as well as Waters, seriously! A slightly more interesting match-up would be Thick as a Brick vs. Animals. I'd have to sit and think about that one...for about 1 second.

| Even though Thick as a Brick is a pretty good release, Jethro Tull's best, but anything Pink Floyd made during the Dark Side of the Moon- The Final Cut period rapes the best of Jethro Tull, IMO described here in Thick as a Brick. |
