PA is a trendy site

BTW, I change my sig as much as I change my socks.

What's that funny smell  ?

I know. That's another resolution for 2006. Be glad that PA is only specialized in sights and sounds

If you recognize my avatar, you can tell that my alter ego never changes any of his clothes  . About the changing of socks: how low can you go: literally?

Never changing your socks is sort of an outlaws' dream, as you can see in Country Dick Montana's lyrics from The Big Rock Candy Mountains (by country rock group The Beat Farmers):

Big Rock Candy Mountains

One evening as the sun went down and the jungle fire was burning
Down the track came a hobo hiking, and he said "boys I'm not turning
"I'm headed for a land that's far away, beside the crystal fountains
"So come with me, we'll go and see the Big Rock Candy Mountains"

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains there's a land that's fair and bright
Where the hand-outs grow on bushes and you sleep out every night
Where the boxcars all are empty and the sun shines every day
On the birds and the bees and the cigarette trees
The lemonade springs where the bluebird sings
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains all the cops have wooden legs
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth and the hens lay soft-boiled eggs
The farmer's trees are full of fruit and the barns are full of hay
Oh I'm bound to go where there ain't no snow
Where the rain don't fall, the wind don't blow
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains you never change your socks
And the little streams of alcohol come a-trickling down the rocks
The brakemen have to tip their hats and the railroad bulls are blind
There's a lake of stew and of whiskey, too
You can paddle all around 'em in a big canoo
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains the jails are made of tin
And you can walk right out again as soon as you are in
There ain't no short-handled shovels, no axes, saws or picks
I'm a-goin' to stay where you sleep all day
Where they hung the jerk that invented work
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

I'll see you all this comin' fall in the Big Rock Candy Mountains

A friend of mine did that last week with the pasta he was boiling. "When you throw it against the wall, and it sticks against it, it's well-cooked." And that's exactly what he did, bon appetit  .

People who have read this thread this far in good health must have a strong stomach

of course, if your friend was a student, he would then throw the pesto at the wall, onto the pasta, then chew it off... yummy...

I'm glad he got his degree last year, so luckily it was only pasta. He's about to marry. I hope his future wife hits him with a roller pin if he does that once again.

I'm afraid not. If she was, she could strangle him with spaghetti if he would make an unjust use of pasta. You know the Italians, passionate in matters of love and preparing pasta  .

The City of Naples probably has the hottest women in Europe... unfortunately that also seems to describe their tempers, so such beauty is bought with a high price...

yes, I'd much prefer an ugly old bag, on the basis that she gave me an easy life...

Naples doesn't have a volcanoe for nothing. That's why the Italians have volcanoes and we don't. It's the temper. Volcanic emotions.

yes very true, and both their potentially live volcanoes are in the south...

...where in Belgium are you from?

BTW, I'm one of the few Brits who actually thinks Belgium is a cool place...

I've reached the stage in my life where I have realised I can't pull anything more than an ugly old bag, so I have to justify it to myself somehow....

I'm one of the few Dutch who think that Belgium is a cool place. I live in Menen, a town in Flanders at the French border. Close to Ieper, or Ypres, or whatever it's being called in English  . I'm from Holland though, and I live here because of my work. Great country, Belgium. Where from England are you?

I think Ieper is an incredible place...I spent a couple of days there 3 years ago, with a lump in my throat...

...the cloth hall is an utterly awesome structure isn't it?  at the time of its construction, wasn't it the largest non religious building in Europe?

I'm from Herefordshire, on the welsh border.

Yes, the cloth hall is amazing. Also amazing is that Ieper looks very old, but every building is from after 1918. As a Dutchman I never heard a lot about World War 1, because the Dutch didn't participate in the war. I'm learning very fast now since I live in West-Flanders. Have you been to The Last Post at the Menen-gate? You must have...

yes, and the Flanders Fields musuem, and Hill 62 museum.... it's an incredible story, how after the war, the Belgian authorities wanted to defy the Germans as much as possible, by recreating the town square in the original architecture, as if to say 'you can't beat us'... that in itself is incredible, as the cloth hall dates from the early 1400s....

I come from Rotterdam, where the centre was bombed during World War 2, and there they decided not to rebuild the centre as it was, but to build a modern centre. So they did, with skyscrapers and some daring architecture. It's interesting to see how two cities handled the situation in a complete different way.

OK, I have been to your Art Gallery (very good), your Maritime Museum (superb...but then why wouldn't it be??) and your Turkish quarter, Falafel hunting.... are you impressed???

...the cloth hall is an utterly awesome structure isn't it?  at the time of its construction, wasn't it the largest non religious building in Europe?

I'm from Herefordshire, on the welsh border.

Yes, the cloth hall is amazing. Also amazing is that Ieper looks very old, but every building is from after 1918. I believe you. Supporting your favourite soccer team can be as hard as supporting your favourite prog band. They don't peak every time. Sometimes they never recover

I'm off now. Nice talking too you about socks and soccer  , and of course the more serious stuff!!

I'm not sure that sleeping in your socks is a great idea...

I hope you were out in the countryside on your own, and that when you returned, you burnt them in the trash can at the end of the garden...
