Has Anyone Noticed How Many Boxsets, Compilations, Best Ofs And Crummy Live Records ELP Have!! They've Got Twice As Much Unnecessary Crap Than They Do Actual Records!! Am I The Only One Who Thinks They're Milkin It?? ------------- thomas mardy |

ELP recorded 2 good studio albums (their eponymous first and Tarkus), one average one (Trilogy) and one good live album (Pictures at an exhibition). Since they filled monster theaters after that, they concluded that second to them, you had God and....er....that's all. Yes, they do have a large number of compilations, but who's to say it's not the record companies who are "milking it"? PS - how do you get every word to start with a capital letter? |

You wanna look back over the Hawkwind back catalogue, every other album is a compilation (official or otherwise) or a crappy live album recorded on a Walkman in a field somewhere. ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

I find it quite pleasing in a way to wander through HMV and see a whole rows of ELP CDs. In my local store ELP CDs take up more space than Pet Shop Boys, Madonna and Frank Ifield. Now that's pleasing. I can remember in dim-and-dark-80's when you couldn't even find a single ELP CD in such a store.

Actually in our large new and used CD/LP store, the ELP discs is picked up quickly, even "Hot Seat" and "Black Moon" (which is usually what winds up in there). I rarely find anything previous to these. If I ever find a "Welcome Back" or "Works" (I or II) or even "Love Beach," I'm grabbing it. ------------- "The red polygon's only desire / is to get to the blue triangle." |

At least with Hawkwind, you can bet that the guys might be different from bootleg to bootleg (considering the thousands of people who've been in the band). But with ELP, we are basically stuck with the same three. We do need more Greatest Hits though, or ELP Ultimate Smash Hits, or ELP Top 40 Countdown Mix with Love Beach Disco Dance Theme.

| Ironically there's only ever been one decent ELP compilation 'The Atlantic Years' and that was the very first one.Most ELP compilations are not very good selections and somewhat pointless I agree.Just get the first 4 studio albums and the first 2 live albums and you have 95% of the best ELP music anyway.Beyond that there is little that is worth taking seriously. |
