For me, Prog's most important feature is its influences from other Musical genres... which is the most important for its development though? I'd say jazz, what do you think? do say if i've left any out

I voted for Classical but all mentioned genres were (are) important for Progressive including Rock itself which was not listed.

well i see rock as a starting point that you developw with the help of other genres... it goes without saying that it'll be you starting influence, otherwise you'll be an avent-Jazz artist or Contempory composer, not a Prog-Rocker

Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

I agree partially

The matter is: Is there a Progressive Music being Prog-Rock only a subgenre of that?

I guess I'm talking for much of the non-Anglo-Saxon world where in many parts you'll find Progressive Music based on local/regional/national roots where in these cases Rock is simply an influence not necessarily the starting point.

I think the problem is Prog-Rock is more of an Idiology than a genre, where all other genres have a paricular sound, Prog-Rock bands can sound completely different to each other. So the only real genres here are Prog's sub-genres like Fusion, Canterbury and Symphonic Rock. But i suppose you could say there is  a genre of progressive music which, like you say would inclued Prog-Rock,   Avent-Jazz and Contempory-Classical among others under its wing

Metal. I like a few classic non-prog metal bands, but most of my collection is prog, there's so much diversity in it I don't need anything else for now.

Simply put, the idea of prog is to have a whole lot of classically trained musicians get together and make music.  Therefore... classical era has probably influenced prog the most.
