Subject: Prog Club - IQ 10/12/05
Date Posted: December 06 2005 at 10:39

As has already been mentioned elsewhere in the forum, Blacksword and I are due to see the mighty IQ in concert this Saturday the 10th of December (year of our taxation 2005) at The Mean Fiddler, Charing Cross, London, UK.

Blacksword (a.k.a. Andy) and I plan to meet up beforehand to have a beer and a natter about all things prog before witnessing the real thing before our excited little eyes. In the great tradition of Ye Olde Prog Club (est. Nov 2005), all are welcome to join us.

A mutually convenient meeting place has yet to be decided upon but yours truly is flexible on the location unless it involves boxing rings or crack houses.

Suggestions anyone?

The evening will be less fun without you Phil but we'll get a review on the forum ASAP.

I am just 1.5 hours away from London but I'm not sure I will make it

I have too many assignments to hand in next week... stupid assignments!!!

I will try to make it but this seems difficult........

Simon and Andy
hope you have a great time at the gig, sorry I can't make it but I'll look forward to some more well-written reviews next week.
We really must get this prog club going after Christmas - we can talk about the CDs we got from Santa. Let's do it!

Richard:

If you can get to Waterloo station for 4.30pm on Saturday you can link up with me and sigod. We're meeting up outside a bar in the station called 'Boneparts' Charing Cross is not far from there.

Failing that you can get to the venue on the Northern Line to Tottenham Court Road.

If anyone can give more explicit directions for Richard please do.

It would be good to meet you.

I've been to the Astoria before so I should be ok for the Mean Fidldler. Thanks anyway.I'm travelling from Swindon so I'll either park in Hammersmith and get the tube in or get the train to Paddington and go from there.I don't think I'll make it to Waterloo but hopefully I'll see you at the venue.

Worry not Richard, here's the Mean Fiddler homepage;

http://www.meanfiddler.com/displayPage_mf.asp?PageID=429 - http://www.meanfiddler.com/displayPage_mf.asp?PageID=429

And a link to Streetmap;

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=529810&Y=181320&A=Y&Z=1 - streetmap.dll?G2M?X=529810&Y=181320&A=Y&Z=1

The Mean Fiddler is located to the right of the Astoria (as you face it). The entrance is at street level but the venue itself is actualy underneath the Astoria (lots of fun watching the lighting rig wobble, as the crowd in the venue above jump about).

Hope to see you there mate.

aapatsos/sleeper; if you can get down to the venue it would be great to see you. Andy and I are meeting before hand (see posts above), so if you can meet up with us, you'd be more than welcome.

Chopper; It would be great to meet up with you anytime. Chris, Andy and I have talked about getting together over a curry sometime in the near future and if you can make it, it's always gonna be better with you than without you.

This potential prog curry in the new year is as ever, open to all who wish to join us.

Simon, a prog curry would be great. I know a good place in Lower Thames Street opposite Billingsgate which is not usually too crowded during the week. There's also a pub next door, which is handy. Look forward to it.

I can see a plan coming together here, chaps. A prog club in every region of the country, then once a year we hold a prog AGM where all who can attend from every region meet up in a pre-arranged location, discuss music for an hour or so then spend the rest of the weekend drinking the town dry!!

Sound's like an ideal location Chopper. Anyone have any objections/problems?

As for regional Prog Clubs, we must remember the first rule of Prog Club...

As my sister insists on turning 40 this weekend   (like she couldn't put it off....) I won't be along for the IQ gig, though I'll be there in spirit.

As for the suggested venue for the prog curry, fine by me - I can reach most locations in central London within an hour or so of finishing work. It may be best to leave it till the new year now, I'm pretty busy for the next few weeks, as I suppose most of us will be.

Now, I want you to play a 20 minute moog solo as hard as you can, right in my face...

No probs Sleeper, we'll see you soon I hope.

Syzygy - The new year sounds like the best bet for Prog Curry in my book too. Let us arrange something closer to the time.

The words "curry" and "prog" in the same sentence...wow...is this a dream? Add "beer" and it's a perfect combination! Sounds a great idea for New Year. Count me in!

"beer" and "curry" always go together (there's a pub next to the restaurant). And for added perfection, there's a lap dancing club nearby.

btw - I like ELP, so there.

Look, I have to get a pass out for the evening, for which I might get away with "curry" as a reason and I might even get away with "beer" but there is absolutely no way I would be allowed out if I put down  " ELP" (sorry I meant "lap dancing")

Don't worry - the lap dancing club is very expensive (so I've heard). You could buy a couple of CDs for the price of a beer and a dance (apparently).

Nowhere near as expensive as hiring an orchestra to go on tour with you.

Classical lap dancing, now there's a new thought...
