Some time ago watching Focus, i saw exellent guitarist named Philip Catherine.

Because I like Focus (Focus III, Hamburger concerto, Moving waves) , and also jazz rock (Mahavishnu orchestra), the sound of focus with Caterine was more jazz rock like Mahavishnu orchestra.

Does anybody know something about his work

Yes, I know him. He's a belgian guitarist, once called the best european jazzmusician of the year. I've seen him perform twice (once with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, which was great). I can't directly recommend you any of his music because I don't own albums of his, but you should check his solowork out, definitely!

PS - he played on one of the songs on Robert wyatt's masterpiece Shleep!!

enjoy

His first solo album I remember being brilliant, and I'd first heard him on a Passport album called "Doldinger Jubilee" something (it's here on the Passport discology), also with Les MacCann & Eddie Harris & Brian Auger on album, a fantastic live disc with THE version of "Compared to What". Catherine just SHREDS on that album!

Excellent guitarist, my favourite PC record is 'Twin House' a record by  Philip Catherine &  Larry Corryell.

Lee Ritenour is alos a jazz guitarist whom I've heard playing a kind of jazz-rock/progressive solo material. Jim Giltrap is another who plays in a jazz-rock/progressive style.

Actually they did two albums together. The other one is better: Splendid is its name

Philip Catherine is still a gifted jazz-rock musician that has a lenghty discography but it is quite uneven, you might want to check out Gnosis for his better work. Guitars from 75 and Babel from 76 are his best ,Stream from 72 and September Man from è' are also must hear.
