okay so this past sunday was my 20th, all I asked for was about 100 different CDs of the Prog rock genre.  Sunday I was with relatives, (far from my home) and they took me to a music store.  This music store was split into sections by genre and had a small section for "Progressive" music.  I had never seen a prog section in a store.  And they bought me about 10 CDs this was probably the best birthday gift I can think of.
I got:
Gentle Giant- Three Friends, Free Hand (My first CDs for Gentle Giant)
Neal Morse- One
Transatlantic- Bridge Across Forever
Spock's Beard- Snow
Van Der Graaf Generator- H to He, Who am the Only One, Pawn Hearts (my VdGG entrance)
The Mars Volta-  Deloused in a Comatorium.
Pink Floyd- The Wall (the movie)
Yes- Close to the Edge (still hadn't gotten it on CD just downloaded)

And the Phantom of the Opera Soundtrack

I hope all I get for Christmas is CDs too

I can but hope for that many for Christmas... my parents will probably by two and one of my brothers will buy one or two as well and then my other brother, always thinks he knows my taste in music, doesn't read a list and buys me something random, but that randomness is usually spot on, he bought me a Mississippi John Hurt CD and something else from the 30s blues scene last year.  I wonder what he'll buy me this year?

And I'd love to have a prog section in my local music shops, that'd be ace..., but still, I suspect it'd be full of the popular stuff and I'd soon have most of it.

By the way, are you enjoying your selection?  It's always better when you enjoy what you bought.

So far these albums are good, it will take several months to completely digest these 10 and the ones I should get next month.  I really enjoyed both Gentle Giant albums, and I got bored of Neal Morse after awhile, so I haven't even listened to Snow.  VdGG is good but will take time to be great, although I really like the song "Killer"

Ah yes, Killer is great, but personally, there is so much better than Killer to my ears.  I think Killer is a good tune for beginners.  I'm sure you'll be a VdGG fan in no time, it does take a while to fully appreciate them.  If you appreciate Killer already, you're making a good start.

The sax solo in Killer is killer...

I'll get my coat...

That' some cool relatives you have there, VV! I only have myself to rely upon when expanding my music collection -ESPECIALLY the prog section of it, lol. None of the people around me have a clue, let's just put it that way.

Oh, and do keep listening to the second track (House With No Door) on H To He Who Am The Only One, it's gorgeous... Killer is also very good, of course.

I envy you for having Free Hand by GG, that is one CD I really want to add to my collection asap...

Heh, just visit Helsinki, we have at least three record shops like that  If I suddenly won the lottery, I could expand my prog collection with several hundred CD's by just getting the prog CD's at offer in those shops...! I tell you, it takes a lot of self-control to only get a couple of them at a time, lol...
