Which do you prefer?
I think he matured considerably as an artist and became a much better singer and writer after he left Genesis!

Gabriel solo work is great with some weak points, Gabriel Genesis is near perfection.

Iván | Quoted for near agreement. For me Gabriel Genesis does have weak points, but its strong points are better than Gabriel's strong points, and its weak points are better than Gabriel's weak points too

Totally agree. Gabriel-Genesis is really really near of perfection...the only two song by them I don't like to death are I know what I like and more fool me ( two relatively great song). Some weak points on the lamb too, but not enough to consider it bad.

I agree his singing improved after he left Genesis, but Gabriel era
Genesis is soo much better. Genesis might have been a band in function
of a charismatic frontman, but he needed them as much as they needed
Peter.

Peter's work with Genesis is so magnificent it's almost frightening!
It's so damn arty and lofty that it is almost unbelievable and so
sureal! Isn't that the effect an artist wants? What more could be said?
I dunno, at first I was excited about the possibility of a Genesis
reunion, now I'm not so sure the band could ever reach those lofty
heights of art again. Michaelanglo never tried to paint another Sistine
Chapel, did he?

Exactly.
EDIT: Note that I love Gabriel's solo stuff as well. Gabriel's solo stuff is
probably in my top 10 (or top 5) of my favorite music while Genesis is # 1.

Although I like much of his solo works, I do prefer his time around Genesis... I think he gave a very special meaning to the band...

Genesis! Genesis destroys my mind over and over again...
I've barely heard any of Gabriel's solo stuff, and from what i've heard about it, there's no reason to even bother.

I just recently bought my first Gabriel solo album, which turned out to be Peter Gabriel II (aka "Scratch") and to be honest, I don't find it particularly thrilling. Now, I am aware that it is a record that seems to divide the fan base quite a lot so perhaps I ought to give the man another chance with something like the debut or Peter Gabriel III -or even his most recent record, Up. As far as his singing goes, so far I haven't found anything on Scratch that would come close to his best performances in Genesis (The Lamb in particular, of course) He seemed like a man with great purpose during his time with Genesis. I still hope to find something equally inspiring in his solo catalogue...

Absolutely not, Gabriel solo tried to sell some lp in more and when it didn't work attempted to something more intellectual.

His voice defineatly improved and he must have had vocal training because in Genesis he couldn't sustain a note. His lyrics also began to make more sense!
Solo for me

He only served his apprenticeship in Genesis, he didn't become the complete artist until after he left Genesis.
I vote Gabriel SOLO
