I think Muse were a very worthwhile inclusion to the archives personally- 'Absolution' is a great example of a genuinely progressive, modern album.

Absolution is an interesting album and the band is certainly unique but wether it belongs here, well like i said in the poll, we should wait and see what they do next.

I am constantly flabbergasted that people continue to confuse bands added as Prog and those that are added as Prog-Related.

Prog-Related bands are not considered to be Prog Bands!!

Prog Related
Rock and Pop Bands and Artists after 1970 who were not truly “prog” (as that term is generally and broadly defined, even by the site), but who were clearly not “mainstream” or simply “rock” bands.

A wide subgenre that encompasses two kinds of bands/artist, that either consist of progressive artist that strayed away from their progressive roots into mainstream rock or were influenced by progressive rock.

Even though the music by these artists is sometimes unrelated it had things in common with prog music in that it was very structured and even adventurous, sometimes hard or heavy, sometimes mellow, strong melodies, good hooks are an integral part of most of the material. Sometimes these artists pioneered other rock genres.

Though most of these artist can't really be considered progressive themselves, their relation to progressive music is not to be underestimated.

C'mon it's not that difficult to understand...

I understand this me old mucker, but how can we give Prog related bands 5 stars then? I think the meaning of the star system has to be reviewed now also.

I love Muse and Kate Bush. The only 'problem' with their inclusion is now I seem to have few non prog artists in my CD collection.Guess I'm a real 'proghead' then

can we please stick to PROG???

What I notice is that lately a lot of music that is so borderline (yes, even Katatonia, before someone else mentions them ) to prog is included, but lots of new PROG bands are not added!

Look at the organizing prog metal topic, lots of PROGRESSIVE bands are suggested there....

We can't allow too loosely defined boundaries, especially in the case of "prog-related." If you have serious intentions of having a "prog-related" category, then why not add The Beatles? Led Zeppelin? The Doors? Steely Dan? Jimi Hendrix? Jeff Beck? Funkadelic? The list goes on, and adding bands like Queen but not adding bands like the aforementioned just creates double standards. Stick to what the website is about to begin with. "Clever" does not mean "progressive," or even "prog-related." Muse definitely is prog-related, but I'm talking about other bands that get added just because they're slightly intelligent.

Your list of band is not far from the truth ... some of those bands are scheduled for addition. But there is a heavy discussion going on here in the public forum as well as among us collabs (I don't think that I betray any secret here) ... and I support those additions with the exception of Funkadelic - I don't know them, and The Doors - not prog related enough IMO.

It's interesting this thread was started by memowakeman, given that in an interview a couple of years ago, Rick Wakeman said of Muse, "they're a progressive rock band whether they like it or not".

From the horse's mouth, you might say.
