Today is Nov 22nd, and it is the 57th b-day of Peter Hammill, singer and songwriter extraordinaire and frontman of Van der Graaf Generator. Happy birthday, Peter, and may you and the Generator make a lot more excellent albums!

For that matter, today is also JFK's death day. Hard to believe, 42 years
ago, perhaps my first memory, the dream of a changed America was ambushed in Dallas, and we went on to Viet Nam, and now the same corrupt power cabal has dragged us into the morass of Iraq. Oh well, better to remember more cheerful things like Peter's birthday. Thanks, Peter, for staying true to your vision. Here we are stranded in the latter half Of the 20th Century But it might as well be the Middle Ages. There'll have to be some changes, But how they'll come about foxes me... I WANT THE FUTURE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

The source I have says Nov 22nd, but I must admit I like Nov 5th better; it would explain why PH uses a scorpio on the cover of "Chamaeleon in the Shadow of the Night". So maybe it should be "Happy belated birthday". ------------- BaldJean and I; I am the one in blue. |

What irritates me most is that I've been to the VdGG gig at the Leverkusener Jazztage on Nov 5th and didn't know that it (as it now seems, since I checked other sources on the web, and they all say Nov 5th) was a b-day gig.  ------------- BaldJean and I; I am the one in blue. |

Peter's birthday was actually on November 5th. He celebrated it by playing a concert w/VdGG in Germany; a sold out show, their first German concert in almost thirty years. It was filmed by the German television program 'Rockpalast' and will be broadcast on January 15th, '06. Snowdog - Yes, Bjork is cool, but Peter is one of the prog-rock originals (up there with Gabriel, Fripp, etc) and, this being a prog board, a tip of the hat is merited. ------------- jc |

Argh, happy belated birthday pH! If it's any consolation, it's my brother's 30th tomorrow, but he isn't a prog musician... I was listening to "A Plague Of Lighthouse Keepers" in the car and it sounded so damn good! Also, my Wobbler CD arrived and it's wonderful. I also bought Opeth - Ghost Reveries and Coheed and Cambria and that annoyingly longed titles album of theirs! Yet to hear them though. -------------
