Well out of this 10, who is king? I have taken this 10 because they are the most famous of this genre...thought I didnt know if to put Oldfield instead of Focus...I hope I did a good job hehehe
By the way, its King Crimson for me!

Anlgagard are also very good.

Camel seems to be the most blues type on the list. They mix symphonic with blues just right and make fantastic albums. They are also the only band on that list who I would listen to each and every studio album and enjoy, some album a whole lot, and other some, but there is not one that I would not enjoy, as opposed to all the other bands listed.
CAMEL HAS MY VOTE!!!!

I cant believe that people can actually decide who is 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd, etc... They are all such great bands its impossible to say who is the best... They are all at the top of the scale in terms of musicianship, I cant decide which one's the best though...
I voted for genesis though because Im listening to them atm.... selling england 4ever!!

damn right I agree.... and I have a question. This is being
debated on another site, just why is Gentle Giant considered
symphonic. They share little in commen with the commen symphonic
elements of the the others. You won't find any sweeping majestic
side longs with multiple movements in their albums, their songs had a
peverse.... pop element to them. Let me explain. Pop relies
up 'hooks' whether vocal or musical. Could it not be argued that
Gentle Giant did the same... though instead of relying on a hook, their
songs were laden with multiple hooks both vocal and instrumental.
Just thinking out loud, so don't flame me too hard if you disagree
hahahah. Seriously though, I'd like to hear why people consider
them symphonic. It has bearing on another discussion I've got
going on elsewhere.
My vote..... Yes.

hmm my favourite symphonic band is Symphony X,
but from that list:
I really like Anglagard, an incredible band and also King Crimson, but after hearing Foxtrot and Selling England...
very often now, I picked Genesis!

Symphonic theme is a hook - a base for symphonic treatment (opposed to literal repetition of hook in pop). So GG are symph.

Mine too... and I agree with you, my dear fellow team member! As a matter of fact, neither GG, nor VDGG, nor KC are symphonic. They have some symphonic elements in their sound, but not enough to be really defined symphonic as, for instance, Yes, Genesis or ELP.

hahahha talk about a blast from the past.... well at least I wasn't TOTALLY full of it. I always thought their eclectic nature was more Gentle Giant than the symphonic elements they do have.

YES for me, but it's difficult to say because the bands listed -and others even great- are very different perhaps superficial similitudes... I voted for YES because it's my favourite band since the first time I heard it (almost 20 years ago) but I still don't if it's the best band of that genre... Anyway I love bands like Camel, Anglagard, Focus and King Crimson amongst others...
