Phil Ehart is the drummer from Kansas. I voted Neil Peart. Portnoy is great but he wouldn't be if Peart hadn't paved the way.

*Phil Collins shouldn't be included. He is a good drummer but not among
the best (talent wise, though he fit in great with the songs)*

I went with Bill Bruford because I love his work in later day King Crimson
(though I think Peart is as good as a drummer.)

TY you articulated well what I wanted to say .. Phil Collins is a good drummer .. but the guys I mentioned in the Poll I consider talent wise to be drum freaks. Theres  lots of other good drummers I didn`t mention, in the end you can`t please everyone   my only small regret was not including Jethro Tulls drummer Barriemore Barlow as I think he may have got a few votes (its hard to get these poll things perfect)

I think you're both crazy.   Have you ever heard any Brand X? Phil Collins is amazing.

( I think alot of people don't realize just how good he was with Genesis because he's mixed super quiet. If you pay close attention to his drumming, you will be amazed.)

Out of this list - Terry Bozzio. I'm very surprised at being the first to vote for him here. The guy played for Zappa, UK and Fantomas, among others. I also heard can play the melody for a ballet on his drumkit - with all due respect to the other drummers here, I can't really see them doing this (well, maybe except for Peart).

The “king” of that list by decree is the multitalented Bill Bruford.  I’m listening now "Cloud About Mercury" (1986) – David Torn, Mark Isham, Tony Levin & Bill …  Amazing album.
