My personal favourite is Siberian Khatru. Sounds less complex at first than the other tracks on CTTE but after repeated listenings, for me its the track that offered them most opportunity to head in a new direction, whereas instsead we got "obese son of CTTE" in Tales.

You can't give the best songs from any band really but from yes is would say Close to the Edge.

"Yours is No Disgrace" is mine, by far. It was the first one I heard by them and I still play it. It's the only Yes track that I play, as a matter if fact. (I tried the others, but nothing about them had me coming back for second's).

To me, Heart of the Sunrise, because it's brilliant and I can't do anything while listening, I just sit there and absorb the Yesness of it all, somewhat traumatised - then when Jon finally goes up at the end in "I feel lost in the city" it's too good to describe -

- but the sheer genius output of Yes is clearly Close to the Edge. (Actually the sheer genius output of most rock is Close...) It's just a really well-thought out conceptualised work of amazingness. The way the themes work together and come back in the end ...

...I think I love them too much ...

(Now reread my post and where you see "Close to the Edge" stick in "Big Generator" or some other less-loved Yes album and see how little sense it makes. It's like Yessish MadLibs. Yeslibs?)

Oh wait, you said best, not which one makes you die a little inside.

There's so many other great ones, America, Ritual:Nous Sommes Du Soleil, Gates Of Delirium, Close To The Edge, And You And I, Siberian Khatru.....the list goes on. It feels bad for me to raise 'Yours Is No Disgrace' above all of those.

it's always a hard question but I'd put Perpetual Change in the wagon, mostly because of the ending where the bnad is divided into two.

Roundabout sometimes, other times it's Heart of the Sunrise because of that reprise of the beautiful "We Have Heaven", best among the best of all endings.

"Tell the moon don't tell the marcher!" -  I love it.

That's "tell the moondog tell the march hair." I only found that out about a year or so ago on a Yes website I think.

Don't worry I didn't know what it was for the longest time either. I always thought it was "tell the moon to tell the marcher."  What is a moondog anyway?

Best song:  Owner of a Lonely Heart (ha ha!)

Or maybe Lift Me Up?  Or maybe Changes played live, with Jon Anderson in a short-styled hair and makeup, prancing and shimmying around the stage like an elf.

Oh, the guys in Yes.  Do they really take themselves seriously?  They should have called it quits after the Drama album, while they still had some dignity.

Good question, but hard to answer... i dont think Yes are the sort of band one masterwork, rather they have several milestones.

My favourite songs of the earydays have to be 'No oppertunity neccessary', 'Time and a word', 'Beyond and before' and 'Something's Coming'

From the mid era, I like Heart of the Sunrise, Southside of the Sky, Round About and all the tracks on CTTE

After CTTE, Their best works came in the form of 'Turn Of the Century' 'Going For The one' and 'To Be Over'.

If i had to choose just one it may have to be 'Turn of the Century'.
