Suppose Dream Theater is looking for a second guitarist... Who would you recommend them?

My choice is... Michael Ammot (Arch Enemy, Spiritual Beggars) I`ve got a feeling he and JP would have no problems with understanding

How about no one? They don't need a second guitar. Petrucci fills that slot
just fine.

That depends what you rate as a good muscian...If it is about purely technical abilities then ofcousre Myung Portnoy and Petrucci...However if you combine technique, sense for melody and the way they approach their instrument then i prefer Dave Murray and Steve Harris...Mr harris's melodies and sense for rhytm is a million times better than Mr Myung mindless bass attacks...

Petrucci is still a good guitarist but still he lacks some more melodic solos, although it has gotten alot better these last years it still quite often come down to a classic keyboard/guitar battle where they try to play a million notes as sync as possible
