I have a weakness for Somewhere in time, and I don't know why...I also like No prayer a lot, it's definitely not their best but it has a nice raw sound (which I like).

Somewhere in Time is great! The guitar synths by Adrian Smyth are sooooo awesome! Bruce does an amazing vocal performance... probably his best!

Can't believe I'm the first one to vote for Number Of The Beast ... was it just too obvious guys?

I mean Hallowed Be Thy Name, Children Of The Damned, Number Of The Beast and Run To The Hills on the same album ... no other choice makes sense ...

(Piece Of Mind and 7th Son would be my runners-up ... but basically I think the first 5 Dicksinson studio albums are the best 5 Maiden records ...

Dance of death was my first Iron Maiden album, and still my favorite...I love the epic feel that album has, songs like Dance of Death and Pashendale are almoust prog...the whole album is almoust prog I think!!!
I have yet to listen to 7th son and Powerslave...but I doubt I liked them as much as Dance of death!!!

Today I'll go with Piece of Mind over Powerslave because it is more consistent IMO.

A tough one- any of their first 5 could have filled the bill for me, but I'd have to go for 'Number Of The Beast'; a true classic of British metal and has one of Bruce Dickinson's finest vocal performances, imo.

'The number of the Beast' has to be the best 80's British metal album. I liked the rawness of the Dianno fronted albums too.

The albums that followed 'TNOTB" I'm less keen on, which may seem strange being a prog fan. Their music got more conceptual and more 'clever' but there was something about their sound that turned me off them. It was partly Nico McBrains drum sound and style. I much prefferd Clive Burrs drum sound and style. The music semed moreexciting with him behind the kit. Murray and Smith's lead guitar sound became 'wimpy' IMO, and Dickinson started warbling too much. I saw them doing 'Seventh Son..' at Donnington in 1988 and they bored me to tears. Kiss and Dave Lee Roth were better.. ...

Takes cover..

There isn't an Iron Maiden album that I can stand listening to right now, I have listened to all of them so many times that I am extremely tired of them, but I still love them!!

My top Three albums have always been:

1. Piece of Mind

2. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

3. Brave new World

It's the second side (of the old LP) that makes this album with the long tracks Powerslave and Rime of the Ancient Mariner. I also like the Losfer Words instrumental. After this album, I lost interest in Iron Maiden. Somewhere in Time had some nice guitar synth sounds but it just didn't grab me.

^^^^^

I myself prefer the good old DiAnno days >>> I loved his voice

the EP Maiden Japan was superb

I went for Killers >>> but I have not heard much past Powerslave

But I cannot stand listening more than a few tracks from Maiden anymore , since the mid-80's , but this hoes for most metal bands

I'd say that the most even album is Brave New World, so my vote goes for that one. Not one bad song and sort of progressive  Seventh Son is also very even and is nicely produced.

Although, Piece of Mind contains the best songs, Somewhere in Time is experimental in a very good way, the first two are very raw, Number of the Beast contains the hits... and not to forget Powerslave, a really good album in all ways.

Hey, do I have to say that I like Maiden?
