She tolerates most groups.....Likes some songs (ELP-Hoedown, King Crimson ITCOTCK).....Hates Yes and Gentle Giant (She says if it were not for the wedding band I would be gay for listining to such music or crap as she calls it) but I still love her.

My wife (Dutch but she grew up in Aruba) can't bear most of the prog, especially the more complex parts, the powerful interplay and the soli, it's really nerveracking for her! She loves melodic and romantic music like merengue, mariachi, country and the popular Dutch female singer Corrie Konings ...

She can't stand Magma, but otherwise is pretty tolerant of prog in general. She tends to latch onto pieces of music rather than artists, but enjoys the first couple of Gryphon albums and quite a lot of Pink Floyd.

My girlfriend likes Barclay James Harvest, Strawbs and some JT's tracks!!!
She even likes GG's OCTOPUS (but she thinks it's a sort of Broadway's show soundrack!

She loves some of it. The rest she does'nt dislike it but she isn't too enthusiastic about it, although there is some stuff she found previously annoying and now she loves it. The same goes to the metal music I hear.

The mother of my child likes some of VdGG and Jethro Tull, and probably
Camel, but generally she's not into prog... and she can't stand Opeth ...more into Korn, Robbie Williams etc.
I wonder why such few women seem to like prog, it's not like the most masculine type of music ever made.

I'm a very lucky dude: She turned me on to DT, I reciprocated with Yes & Porcupine Tree. We run the gamut from Black Metal to Prog-Folk (is that a sub-genre?). Mind you, she's got tendencies - George Michael for godsake!!!!
------------- Mart, the Old Progger is Listening to:
Opeth - Ghost Reveries
Roy Harper - Stormcock
Yes - Topographic Oceans
Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking

For me, my girls likes some prog, as long as I don't call it
progressive. She says she don't understand my prog-music, but she still
likes "a whiter shade of pale" and "bohemian rapsody". She also like
some Opeth and some Ark, but she totaly hates stuff like KC, Änglagård,
Anekdoten, echolyn, yes and Van der Graaf.
She is a big fan of Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Manowar and Rage (which
should be on the forum....), though. So I guess I have no reason to
complain.

hate may be too strong a word, but my wife dislikes prog with great
passion. She cringes every time she sees me grab a Van Der Graaf
Generator album, when I head out to do yardwork. Now that I
mention it, I don't think the neighbors think too much of it
either.

My Wife (Dutch, born and bred) hates most of my music. The more
complex, the louder the guitars, the worse it gets for her. Zappa and
Vai are definitely headphone music for her. She's more into the
romantic and easy going stuff like Andrea Bocelli, Norah Jones, Katie
Melua. She also likes some non-prog favorites of mine like Juan Luis
Guerra or James Taylor. And she likes the Dutch singer Guus Meeuwis.
(but not Corrie Konings)
But still, married very happy for over 18 years now.....

Hello UncleMeat.
I'm 15 years happily married but you're better off with Guus Meeuwis than me with that wailing voice from Corrie Konings ... But I'm glad she likes some mellow prog from Supertramp, BJH and Pink Floyd (a small compensation ).

My girlfriend has learned to like some Prog', for example early Genesis when I told her Gabriel was the orihginal vocalist (She always hated Phil Collins, even before I met her), Kansas, Styx (Well not exactly Prog), a few ELP tracks (Mostly the ones I hate), Jethro Tull, Focus and a few more but I learned never to play a King Crimson album when she's a mile near.
Once on a trip to Peruvian Jungle,. after almost 8 hours of driving I dared to play Red, she almost jumped from the car.

hah hahah, I had much the same experience when I took Larks's Tongue in
Aspic along on a family trip. I nearly slept on the couch for
that one.

I know the feeling. I had to paint the fence at my parents house last
summer, and to make the job go easier I put om Mirage by Camel. Afet
about 15 minuts the neighbour came rushing over to tell me to turn that
demn noise of. Guess he is about 50 years old. Anyway, once he heard
what I was playing, he proved to have been a big camel-fan in the 70's.
It all ended with him asking me if I could turn the stereo up and move
it a litle closer to him.
