First disc for me, overall. Rudess ruins parts of the second disc for me, I find some of his keyboard patch choices to be on the corny side.

The first disc doesn't have any weak tracks on, but all except the last drag on a bit too long. The second is less overly long but I don't like about half of the songs so the first disc has it (Misunderstood and Disappear are brilliant )

Actually, come to think of it, I'm not keen on either the second or fourth track of the first disc... I don't have it with me so I can't remember which one's which.

For me Disc 2 is one of the best pieces by Dt, better even than ACOS. At about 40 minutes its really like a concept album on its own.

I have to say the first disc by a mile. Granted, the first four tracks do drag on just a little bit but in this album they were experimenting with moveing there sound closer to heavy metal and on the second disc they just tried to fuse that with there earlier sound and it just comes up as a mess IMO.

Disc 1

Disc 2 is slightly overrated, IMO, but still very good.

Both are awesome, but I love the 1st a bit more... It has such killer tracks like The Glass Prison, The Great Debate or Misunderstood... The only song I don't love is Disappeared... Its kinda strange... But still quite good...

It's the fourth track I don't like. But four out of five ain't bad, I guess.

I've been studying both discs on bass.  This is also my favorite Dream Theater album.  I'm going to ignore that this poll has a both option because it's way to easy for me to pick that.  I voted for the second disc, it is in my opinion, the most brilliantly composed piece of music i have ever heard.  The flow is remarkable for a a forty minute piece.  When Dream Theater plays these songs live, you want to hear the next track when they're starting the next song.  As far as my experience from studying both discs, the first disc has some great varietly and range to the matierial, the second disc is in a smaller range, but has more technical passages and needs to be played much more precise.  Musically both discs have their strong suit, but disc II seems to posses something (possibly emotion) that disc I does not have.

If DT could get more epic sections like the final prechorus of Misunderstood and the bit just before the end of Disappear (maybe they did on Octavarium, I haven't listened much), they'd be one of my favourite bands.

First disc, by a decent margin. The second disc has the great flow, interesting stories and of course the great overall sound. But all five tracks on first disc could pretty much make an album good by themselves... though Disappear might be a little questionable on that claim.

The 43-minute track is one of Dream Theater's greatest accomplishments, and is very symphonic and catchy. The "Overture/About to Crash" and "Losing Time/Grand Finale" are two of the best sections to any song DT has ever done.

I voted both. Quite possibly my 2nd favorite DT Album ever (maybe 3rd, depends on my moods), each song has something unique on the first disc. Each of those five tracks just has something different and special to them, and I really love Disappear!! The second disc is truly EPIC. I love the Six Degrees suite, and it's one of my favorite DT songs ever! The whole album is worth getting!

Jeez, what a tough choice!!

I chose 2....it is SO complete!

I think that 'Blind Faith' weakens the first disk just a tad, it is still a good song, but the 2nd disk is perfect!

DEFINITLEY my favorite DT album and likely in my fave albums ever..

I'm gonna go with Disc 1.

It definitely has moments of weakness, such as the last track, and the one about stem cells, or as I refer to it "DT's tribute to cable news punditry".

However, The Glass Prison and Blind Faith are awesome.  Blind Faith has some amazing guitar tone in it, especially the solo at the very end.  The Glass Prison is just intense and loud and awesome.  honestly, if you have a subwoofer in your car, go out right now and crank that song.  nothing hits harder than that first jarring chord.

nothing.

 I voted for both.I can't really decide...

Glass Prison and Blind Faith are excellent song, but CD2 is a wonderful musical flow.

6DOIT is my favourite DT-album from the Rudess-era.

CD2 definitely. Take the time to get into it.

Both of them are far from perfect. The first disc only has Glass Prison as a strong point, but the rest is nothing special. The first half of the second disc is really good, but gets ruined by Goodnight Kiss, Solitary Shell ( ) and whatever comes after that. Overall, I still vote Disc 2.

Ruined by its best songs ? The track that really pisses me off is "The Test That Stumps Them All". How many times do they need to play that damn riff?!

I know most people love Solitary shell, but it always reminded me of some boyband crap. And the lyrics are super-cheesy. My fave would be War inside my Head - great riff and chorus on that one.

Funnily enough, when I said "The Test That Stumps Them All", not only did I get the title wrong, I also got the song wrong and actually meant "War Inside My Head". The chorus is alright but I could (and do ) live without DADADADADADADADA! DADADADADADADADA! DADADADADADADADA! DADADADADADADADA! every verse. That's a guitar riff, if it isn't immediately obvious
