Out of the ashes of Hominído and La Desooordan, Chilean drummer extraordinaire Rodrigo González Mera erects a new band of very competent, even virtuosic, musicians. Recorded and mastered in Valdivia, Chile, Chercán's self-titled debut album was released on March 4, 2025. It is one of the best albums I've heard in a long time. If you're a lover of of either of the two bands cited above, or SVEN IMPALE, Red-era King Crimson, AISLES, NOT A GOOD SIGN, or LA COSCIENZA DI ZENO you might find your self loving this album!

Integrantes:
- Martín Peña / voces, guitarras adornos (7 "Colores")
- Simón Catalán / bajo
- Roberto Faúndez / guitarra eléctrica y acústica
- Matías Bahamondes / saxo
- Rodrigo González Mera / batería y percusiones
Músicos Invitados:
Benjamín Ruz / Arreglos cuerdas, violines
Javiera González / Viola
Ariadna Kordovero / Cello

1. "La culpa" (6:51)
2. "Caen las hojas blancas" (5:46)
3. "Kalimba" (4:54)
4. "Desolación (En)" (1:10)
5. "Tiempos paralelos" (5:13)
6. "Las mentiras del muro" (5:14)
7. "Relato de una obsesión. Part I: Quimera" (6:50)
8. "Relato de una Obsesión. Part II: El orate" (6:04)
9. "Colores" (4:19)

Total time: 44:21

The album can be streamed for free on Bandcamp while more information is available from these sites:

Hi,

Very nice stuff ... really good album, and not stuck on formats like so many things around. Listened to the whole thing and will play it all again. It's that nice!

(later) ... sad to see no new responses, or listens ... really sad, specially when a band deserves it!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Thanks for bringing this to the forum. I concur with the praise given so far. I've already checked out 50 or so 2025 prog albums and so far, this easily sits in the upper echelon.

^ Thanks, guys! I think it's making its way into the public light. Mike's at Awesome Prog has got it in his top 3 for 2025 already! And the Eclectic team just voted it into the PA database. Should be popping up on its own page any day now!

^ Now No2 on AP for the year and NO1 for March.

It's a strong album although at the moment just placing outside my top 10 for the year. The 2 part mini epic (tracks 7 and 8) is utterly sublime. I'm on the fence whether to buy it at the moment although to be fair it's not that expensive on Bandcamp ($9) with a price of just under £9 for UK customers once you take account of the sales tax. Will circle back.

Love that someone mentioned Riverside—so underrated! Their layered complexity reminds me of the strategic depth I love in poker. Just like how I use https://casinoveri.it/" rel="nofollow - https://casinoveri.it/ to discover top-tier casinos, discovering lesser-known prog bands is its own thrill. Both experiences reward attention to detail and the rush of something fresh.
