Subject: 13 albums from 1972 and 12 albums from 1973

After another long series starting with 2024 and working my way down yearly to 2005 which had three sections (PA Album Charts Top 8, PA Album of the Year Event, my personal 8 choices) I made a poll with three sections of albums from 1967, 1968 and 1969 and then one with two sections of 1970 and 1971. Doug is also making series right now per year and I am inspired to do this today because of his latest 1973 poll and because I could not sleep. I like that dynamic, I like to compare and contrast lists and to me it just feels kind of vibrant to do so. It almost feels to me like the polls as are in some kind of dialectic and I'm ever in search of some kind of synergy. I really appreciate polls and topics that cover a variety of people's personal favourites and I do love to share my tastes, even if it can get too repetitive.
This is multiple choice. Please try to vote for up to three for each year, so three from 1972 and three from 1973 in the list and mention those in a post. If you go over, it's not a big deal. If you only like one album in the list, that's fine. If you like none in the list, that's fine, please say so and mention your own favourites. I do like to see other people's favourites and lists that may or may not include the same selections that I have. Thanks. I have not bothered with an other as I want people to mention what they like on the list and not on the list in post. It's not a contest and reading through the posts interests me more than just seeing the results of the poll itself.
I have opted to leave out Stringtronics, which is not in PA, I love it, but it is likely to be very little known except to some I have shared it with before here. Also sadly left out Nick Drake, an album and artist I love. I do consider him to be in the progressive folk camp and don't distinguish him in my collection as separate from other folk artists of the era that are in PA. I get that he does not rock, and I am not complaining that he is not in PA, but he still fits with the others in folk for me. Nick Drake has more in common with, say, Vashti Bunyan who is in PA than with, say, Meshuggah which is in PA.
The list order is quite arbitrary and I could have so many other albums. These are years where I would like to offer much longer lists, but going for economy, at least in the poll itself. I like writing these rambling, extemporaneous opening posts.
here are my top 25 for each year at AwersomeProg. I have been doing 20 but I prefer 25 as that is how many poll options there are and I am more of a maximalist than a minimalist.
Here are my longer lists at AwesomeProg: https://awesomeprog.com/release-polls/pa/aoty-1972/users/Logan" rel="nofollow - https://awesomeprog.com/release-polls/pa/aoty-1972/users/Logan https://awesomeprog.com/release-polls/pa/aoty-1973/users/Logan" rel="nofollow - https://awesomeprog.com/release-polls/pa/aoty-1973/users/Logan

1973 was quite the year with Henry Cow's debut, Gong on fine form and the brilliant MDK. 1972 belonged to Germany.

For 1973, I know I'm gonna vote:
Alain Goraguer - La planète sauvage Can - Future Days
-but for my third vote, I can't decide on one over the other:
Magma - Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy
...and I though of these two as well.
Gong - Radio Gnome Invisible Vol. 2 - Angel's Egg Spirogyra - Bells, Boots and Shambles
The remaining albums are also great.

Hey, Greg, an eye opening poll! Most of these either I know by name, only, or don't know at all. Different strokes for different folks, like you say, the dynamic of differences in these polls sure makes for interesting reading....I feel I cannot comment further due to my not being acquainted with the bulk of it....makes for things I can check on youtube, though

^ Choices that any self-respecting aardvark might like. Awesome choices methinks, but then I would think that. Thanks, Ken.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, Doug. I wonder if you would have found much more that you know and like in the 25 albums per year that I listed in the opening post? I have about 45 for each year listed at Awesome Prog, but these poll choices I feel represent me well despite leaving off favourites.
What I often like to see are polls where the choices really represent the individual -- like I associate you so much with Triumvirat. I appreciate that the music is so special and meaningful to you. Very probably more-so than any specific act is to me, especially as my favourites now tend to be ones that I discovered more recently -- it's not as steeped in old memories or sentimentality as with many other people's favourites. I can get obsessive and then I move on the other obsessions and reignite old flames.
Even if I have very different tastes, it can make feel closer to someone, and I can understand better how to communicate with them, what to recommend by seeing and getting to know something of another's tastes, maybe not a bonding experience. I am lousy at recommendations commonly, by the way. My hit, as in someone actually comments that they liked the recommendation, to miss average is not good, even in topics where people are asking for specific kinds of recommendations. Maybe I am too far up my own narrative and too into what I appreciate to make better suggestions and listen well. Digressions, digressions...
By the way, even if people like just one album in the poll, I would appreciate it if they would vote for it and comment on it. I would not expect many people here to know many of the albums. It's no a contest and not asking best of these, just for people to vote for and comment on an album or albums if they know any and like them. I do appreciate it too when people tell me that they know none of them or like none of them as it's not just about sharing my tastes, but getting to know more about others too.
I was privileged to find and comment on, or I just have listened to so very much music, at least one album in all of your polls but as I said in some of your topics, I knew very little of what you listed. Anyway, if you don't know and like any of these in the poll well, I do think there is some stuff you would enjoy.
This is a particular favourite long track of mine. I adore it, not saying that you would like it.
Hooray for diversity, there is such a huge plethora of quality releases from the period for all sorts of tastes. Always more to discover and appreciate and new avenues to explore and fixate on.
Thanks to all who have taken the time to vote and comment, even if I don't respond to all the posts (I would more except I fear sometimes that the response will not be appreciated -- I hazz an insecure as the lol cats might say and I do write too long, I associate too much and overshare), it is a pleasure for me to read through all the posts.
I'm very pleased that as many people as there are find things to like in my lists. There is so much late 60s and 70s music that so many of us share a common love for, and I like to both explore the difference, and search for and find the commonalities with people.
