I voted for Edgar Froese's Epsilon in Malaysian Pale (original version not a certain remastered version which I did agree with a Baldie on being inferior).

When I started to deeply explore Progressive Electronic music in the early 2000s (I had been into lots of electronic music before that). When I really feel for Progressive Electronic, this was one of my very first loves.

I also know well and like:
Peter Baumann - Trans Harmonic Nights
Klaus Schulz - Cyborg
Conrad Schnitzler - Con '72

This should be a good series and I hope to learn about many albums that will appeal to me.

Cyborg for me. Not quite at the same level as its predecessor due to the lack of warped orchestra tapes, but it still emits a singularly cold dark ambient atmosphere that he'd never touch again.

There is a clear winner here: Edgar Froese's Epsilon in Malaysian Pale. This album enchanted David Bowie to the point he wanted Edgar to be his guitarist. They became friends and Bowie hung out with Edgar and his family in Berlin for some time. Side B, "Maroubra Bay," is the best piece of music Vangelis never recorded. The best way to experience the album is with a quality pair of headphones — PreSonus, Sennheiser, take your pick.

2. Michael Hoenig, Xcept One (unfairly overlooked, it's a low-key '80s classic)
3. Peter Baumann, Trans Harmonic Nights (brilliant moody compact pieces)
4. Johannes Schmoelling, The Zoo of Tranquility (an acquired taste)
5. Klaus Schulze, Cyborg
6. Jerome Froese, Shiver Me Timbers
7. Thorsten Quaeschning, Cargo
8. Steve Jolliffe, Journeys Out of the Body
9. Ulrich Schnauss, A Strangely Isolated Place
10. Paul Haslinger, Future Primitive

I've been exposed to both the infamous remastered version and the original pressing, but I've never gotten into Epsilon in Malaysian Pale. It always sound so great when others talk about it. I'll give it another spin and check if anything has changed - one of these days.

Until then, it's Cyborg for me. I much prefer it to Irrlicht.
