A difficult choice but I will vote for Herbie Hancock here.

Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Inner Mounting Flame

Santana - Santana III
Chicago - Chicago III

So many favorites here. I don't know which one to choose out of these four*

Alice Coltrane - Journey in Satchidananda
Weather Report - Weather Report
Wayne Shorter - Odyssey of Iska
Herbie Hancock - Mwandishi

& these are very nice as well:

Idris Muhammad - Peace and Rhythm
Bobbi Humphrey - Flute-In

*probably Alice Coltrane, but I have no idea what she's doing in these polls. Ironically her only (partly) Jazz Fusion-album release is the Carlos Santana collaboration Illuminations:)

Barefoot Boy. It is likely Larry Coryell’s most significant jazz-rock album from the 70s, apart from his work with the Eleventh House. It represents his first genuine foray into jazz-rock, and it stands as my personal favourite among Coryell's discography.

What a magnificent year for Jazz Fusion.

1. Chicago III
2. Miles Davis- A Tribute to Jack Johnson
3.Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Inner Mounting Flame
4. Santana- III
5. Frank Zappa- 200 Motels
6.Weather Report - Weather Report
7. Frank Zappa & the Mothers - Fillmore East, June 1971

That's my subjective list.
My perceived "objective" list would be significantly different.

A toss up between Mawandishi and The Inner Mounting Flame. I'm voting for the latter due to its MASSIVE impact on the JRF movement and rock guitar playing in general.

I love that Coryell album along with Mahavishnu Orchestra and Miles Davis. A killer top three.

Mahavishnu Orchestra > Herbie Hancock. I'm tired of contacting the lexical analyzer every time I need a toothbrush.

Some great ones here, but the Inner Mounting Flame is a classic.

It just occurred to me that you left out this legendary album. Push Push may not be legendary for its musical content, but nevertheless. It's actually a more than decent enough Jazz-Funk/Soul-Jazz album (better than Memphis Two-Step) and as always with Mann, featuring a killer line-up:

^ I've given Herbie Mann's album a belated Push Push into the poll this morning, in place of Buddy Miles. Thumbs Up

The Inner Mounting Flame. Favorite Jazz Fusion album from my favorite Jazz Fusion Band. Absolutely blown away the first time I heard the album.

Chicago had two really good releases in 71.

The album cover alone makes many a list.

I really like both of the Alice Coltrane albums and will go with Universal Consciousness.

This was the first thing of hers that I fell for.
