I put this together quickly, brother-in-law's funeral today, not going, too far to fly when my wife and I both have respiratory ailments. A reminder to make the most of the time we have, which may or may not involve creating more polls...

Again this poll comes in three sections and an "other", and again multiple voting is not enabled.

The first eight are taken from the unfiltered, except by year, Prog Archives Top Album Chart for 2017. The second eight is taken from the Collab Album of the Year for 2017 topic, but if an album of that was already listed, then I omit it from that poll section. The third eight is from my top 20 list at Awesome Prog for 2017. "Other" as a voting option is intended to use if none of the listed options have much appeal. That said, I would ask people to mention their favourites on and off the list. If your favourite on the list is Agusa, but your actual favourite is Steven Wilson's To the Bone, then I suggest voting for and mentioning Agusa in a post while mentioning Wilson's album as being your actual favourite.

Sharing is caring and detailed posts are welcome (that can help with conversation). Mention as many of your favourites as you like, both and off the list. And feel free to mention what you don't like that is listed too.

2016 is a huge year for me, but I will take a break from these. Don't want to inundate PA with my topics.

I go for Thinking Plague out of this bunch (still haven't listened to Deliquescence, stupid me). I do like Polygondwanaland, The Comet is Coming, and this year's Roger Waters album, even though I may be the only one.

Patience has never been a virtue of mine. Once I start something, no matter how pointless and mundane the exercise may prove to be, I like to finish it, but not at the expense of other people's efforts not getting attention.

"The Knot" off Deliquescence is especially epic.

That said, 1998's Swans Are Dead is my favourite Swans live album, but then I love Swans' late 80s through 90s period.

I have not heard the latest Live Rope (2024).

Pasticuffs edges out Land Animal and Peasant from this list. Looking at my library, a few that stand out that aren't in the list:
- Guerilla Toss - GT Ultra (you may like this one)
- Murder of the Universe was my favourite of the KG+TLW albums that year
- Lingua Ignota's All Bitches Die was pretty great
- Merkabah's Million Miles kicked ass
- I remember enjoying Mary Ocher's the West Agains the People, but haven't listened to it since then I don't think. But it may be up your alley
- St Vincent's Masseduction was fantastic
- Xanthochroid's of Earth and Axen II was a pretty great metal concept album.
- Zeal and Ardors debut was also pretty fantastic

But album of the year for me probably goes to the pretty straightforward emotive alternative rock, "Broken Machine" by Nothing but Thieves, this has been on constant play for me basically since then.

Sorry to hear about your brother in law. It's always sad to lose family.

So many releases I still need to listen to, it never ends LOL

These are my current favorites of 2017. In this poll I'll vote for Polygondwanaland, although I prefer Murder of the Universe (also from 2017).

I really like The Source. I also love the Pain of Salvation album, there was a great synergy on that one between Gildenlöw and Ragnar Zolberg.

Thanks, my wife has taken it very hard. He was the brother of hers I was closest to. We shared the same worldview. It's been a long series of illnesses, but he had heart surgery and other procedures and he had seemed to be improving. Always sad and also a fact of life. My wife's father was the same age in his 50s when he died. Since my wife has had heart attacks it's a reminder to be extra vigilant. She should leave her job -- far too stressful, and I should work harder (I do lack the same kind of earning potential).

I will check out Guerilla Toss. I have Lingua's Ignota's in my longer list. I have listened to that St. Vincent once just recently, but needs more spins. It's one I expect to list here after I spin it again. The order does not mean much as I should return to various of these.

I'm really sorry to hear about your Wife's brother. None of the men on my dad's side of the family have hit 60 that we know of until me. I feel it's coming though, I struggle physically. It's all good though.
2017 was a deep year for me, I am still reviewing cds I picked up back then. My top three...
Violato Intatto
From Silence To Somewhere
Hoping Against Hope

And I did have a blast when I discovered King Gizzard. I probably over did it with these guys though and jumped off the bus pretty much after 2017. But Flying Microtonal Banana and Polygondwanaland still standout for me.
Albums not listed that I like are quite a few.
Psychedelic music from Atavismo, Nik Turner and Electric Moon. John Zorn and Mediabanda as well, for powerful jazz related music. Miriodor in Avant released an amazing record in Signal 9. Such a good year.

And one really random recommendation would be a NYC band called Ex-Eye. Includes a Secret Chiefs 3 member and is led by the sax player. Post metal that is both heavy and powerful.
