Weyes Blood - Titanic Rising (2019)
Xiu Xiu - 13" Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto With Bison Horn Grips (2024)

Unlike in the last one of these I did for acts in PA, I decided this time not to dismiss a second album from an act. Various of these had an alternate album in the poll. With various of these I would love to mention three or more albums from this period. With Sufjan Stevens, actually the album I have been listening to the most of late is All Delighted People EP (gives me such a dopamine rush with the opening and closing tracks especially), but I opted to go for another album of his that I have loved that I know is very popular here. My other fave of his during this 2010 to now period is Javelin. I think my biggest for me missing name in the last one is Boards of Canada. I love this Scottish duo, and I think that Tomorrow's Harvest is a very fine album. Over the past few years there has been talk of follow-up to it being released. I kind of which I had not opted to repeat acts because I am still missing various faves like Matt Berry's Kill the Wolf and many others. That said, I do like my list as is and those are all special to me albums (as might be expected). I am pleased with how much great-for-me music I have discovered over the past few years especially. But then of course I expect many of us feel the same and some have discovered way, way more music than I have (the amount of new-to-me albums I listen to must pale in comparison to Paul, or Mike...). When I really like an album it will get played again and again and again and again et cetera and so on.... I am the obsessive type.

I just listened to that St. Vincent album for the first time through very early this morning. I have grown more partial to dance kinds of music, but then I like to dance, and unlike Genesis, I can, albeit very badly. Dancing with me can be a crippling experience, as I have injured a number of ladies with my moves. and I was listening to The Necks Body last night. Such a good album for my tastes, and would fit PA. I know The Necks have been considered. My most listened to The Necks albums has been hanging gardens (1999). Got that Juana Molina playing as I type -- I love her stuff. BRUIT ≤ is a post-rock band that I am rather surprised no one has added yet. I might suggest it at some time.

By the way, if it's just a stage name I am generally trying to put it on order of the first word even if based on the real name like with Klô Pelgag (Chloé Pelletier-Gagnon), but I don't care that much about getting the order right. Some people are a lot more into such things than I am and some don't seem to care how they order their polls at all.

One again, please vote for up to five (or more if you really want to) and mention those in a post.

Here is my last not in PA list for comparison ( See this topic https://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=134183" rel="nofollow - https://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=134183 )

These generally are not going to be as popular as, say, a Yes vs. Genesis poll and some have asked me, "Why bother?" I bother because I am passionate about music and love to share that which I am passionate about. I also have hoped to promote and expose people to music that I care about. It also has led to me getting great recommendations and there is plenty of music I care about and wish to mention that I was turned onto by other people at PA. I like to connect with people over music, even if it might be said to be fairly superficial internet experience. I hope that PA has room for and passion for very wide variety of tastes and that we as a community appreciate having the diversity and try to support such diversity. It would be more diverse if it wasn't done by a few active topic makers like myself coming up with the majority of topics. Oh well. :)

By the way, I would love to work together with some people who share many of the same tastes in art. I have a variety of ideas and if anyone wants to collaborate, please contact me via PM. I think we could build something valuable together, and despite being an introspective loner, I do get more inspired with projects when interacting with passionate, driven people. I have had number of projects I have wanted to take on, but to be honest I can be very lazy and can be more ideas-driven than practical. I would like more of a platform to share, promote and foster things that I am passionate about: be it creating a space for concerts (my brother ran a folk music festival), podcasts or the build-me-a-swimming pool for frisky femmes to frolic in project (very passionate about that one especially). My wife would not approve.

On another note, while I ask people to vote for and mention up to five (or more, I'm not fussy) please feel free to mention and discuss faves of yours not in PA that are not listed by me (either from acts I mentioned or altogether different ones). Sometimes we get people saying "from this list I choose", which is great, I appreciate it, but it begs the question from me "What are your faves not on my list?" I am curious and like to know such things about people's interests. As passionate as I am about what I list and like, I know others feel that way about music they are into. I love and appreciate that passion for art commonly even if its not art that I am passionate about. And I hope that others share the same feeling on that.

I don't know most of these; quite a few are on my list of things to check out. I haven't been very keen on Cure albums for some time, although I loved them until about 2000, but I hear good things about their 2024 album.

The ones I know and love are Boards of Canada, Lingua Ignota, Portico Quartet, Sufjan Stevens. I think I heard the Necks album once and saw them live in that year, so I'll throw a vote for them as well.

From the couple artists I know here, there are even fewer albums I am familiar with... and this is why Nick Cave's 'Wild God' gets my vote.

I've listened to a bunch of these over the years and remember enjoying them. But the ones that get my vote are just two:

Nick Cave (still in my listening rotation)
Lingua Ignota

The Xiu Xiu you linked, I don't know if I'm familiar with it enough yet to give it a vote. My overall reaction to it is largely positive but I don't have any favourite or anticipated tracks off of it yet. Julia Holter, Jenny Hval, I like their music and always check them out but somehow I never end up listening enough that I can recall them later. That Sufjan album is maybe my least favourite I've heard from him, although I'm a very different listener than last time I gave it a chance so maybe time to try again.

^ I have found that Sufjan Stevens album (Carrie and Lowell) kind of boring at times compared to others. In terms of favourites, maybe I have been kind of disingenuous by going with that for this poll of the period (keeping in mind that I chose Age of Adz for an earlier poll). All Delighted People EP (2010) and age of Adz are current favourites, and I have been more likely to play Javelin (2023) (than Carrie and Lowell. That said, when I'm in the right mood, I really like C&L, but I do tend to go for the Sufjan Stevens albums with more maximalist, big sound qualities. Carrie and Lowell is a very pleasant singer-songwriter folk album and can be very beautiful. And it has connected with me. And I really like various pre-2010 Stevens albums.

So much of what appeals to me on a given day depends on what I am most into that day, my current mood... My wife enjoys Carrie and Lowell the most of his so it has got significant car play time She doesn't really weird or bombastic music. I recently played his second album, Enjoy Your Rabbit, which is pretty electronic and liked it way more than its 2.90 rating at rateyourmusic indicated. I think a lot of people turning to it were expecting more the sound of say Illinois and Michigan and were disappointed that it's something different. One thing I really respect about Sufjan Stevens is that he has tried different things. I think he's been a lot more diverse than, say Aryeon. I'm not into Ayreon, nor would I think they are very comparable, but just as an example. And Carrie and Lowell does not remind me much of Messughah either, but I digress. ;)

Anyway talking a lot about Sufjan Stevens because I have been listening to him lot of late. Due to his Christian-link, I have wanted compare him to Neal Morse (I'm not into Neal Morse, just thought they could be interesting to compare). Useless tangent of mine.

The Cure - Songs of a Lost World (2024)
Bruno Pernadas Those Who Throw Objects at the Crocodiles… (2016

I love Carrie and Lowell to pieces, even though it is 0% "progressive". The melodies just move me more than most other music. I agree that his albums are very different and most or even all are very good, but for me, if somebody does an album full of straight emotional songs, it hardly gets better than this. It's my number 1 choice on this list and would be it on many lists. First thing I heard of Sufjan Stevens was Michigan, which is extremely strong, too, and of course more to most progger's taste. Wink

^ I love the album when in the mood. It is a very heartfelt and, I would say mature, album. It lacks the kitsch and over-the-topness of other Sufjan Stevens work that appeal to me. I say that but I like the contrast in many Sufjan Stevens albums. I consider all of his albums that I have wonderful in their own right, which is currently at: Enjoy Your Rabbit (2001), Michigan (2003), Seven Swans (2004), Illinois (2005), All Delighted People EP (2010), Age of Adz (2010), Carrie & Lowell (2015), and Javelin (2023).   And I liked listening to Carrie & Lowell Live (2017) but need to give that a proper listen.

I think he's amazing, and more progressive and impressive across his discography than lots of artists in PA. Not that when I say progressive I mean Prog as a genre. Generic Prog is less likely to be of interest to me.
