Time for the penultimate poll of these series as we have finally reached 2024! I am quite eager to see how this one might turn out although I do have a feeling that Opeth might have an advantage over the other bands. In any case, once we have some clear results here, the follow-up (and final poll) will be dedicated to the "winners" of each year... In the cases where we have ties I would have to resort to the PA ratings as a tie-breaker and give preference to the album with the higher overall rating. The final poll will include 25 entries (2000-24), it should be fun! But let's focus on 2024 as of now... I am kicking things off with a vote for my AOTY, Ihsahn - S/T. Star

Albums with the most votes from the previous polls:
2000: Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun

No surprise that I'm voting for Opeth again, although that's not something I thought I'd ever say. Tongue

Surprised to hear that! Knowing that the new album is much more partial to their earlier works (which if I have understood correctly appall you) and not as much to the psych-prog era... which doesn't change the fact that it's a damn good album! Wink

I like 4 albums here, I will vote for the one that needs at least one vote. EmbarrassedSmile

Yes, the same applies to Therion too. Therion's earlier Death Metal albums sounded dreadful to my ears, but I was completely blown away by their Symphonic Metal Vovin album. Thumbs Up

Nothing on the list floats my boat that much although I have Caligula's Horse and Wheel in my top 50 albums for the year. They are solid releases but that is it. I seem to be the contrarian when it comes to Opeth's latest. Not hearing what other people are hearing and felt exactly the same about Haken's Fauna album last year.
Heavier prog albums from the year that I do like a lot are Kingcrow - Hopium, Night Verses - Every Sound Has A Color In The Valley Of The Night and Turbulence - Binary Dreams. From the list I voted for Caligula's Horse as I have that slightly higher in my AOTY List at 40 compared to 49 for Wheel.
