I gave Motorpsycho's The Crucible a vote. While most of my favourite albums are not in PA for 2019 (Weyes Blood, Lingua Ignota, Vanishing Twin, The Comet Is Coming, Angel Olsen....etc.), here's a nod to black midi's Schlagenheim, Uboa's Origin of my Depression, Fire Orchestra's Arrival and Duster's Duster. And there was a significant album from King Gizz that year. That Duster is actually included in Neo-Prog at PA, which frankly I would not expect of one of my favourites. Sounds nothing like Neo-Prog to me, not sure of other Duster albums... Space-Rock Revival and Neo-Psych stuff.

I started with a list of thirty albums initially, but King Gizzard (my least favourite) was one of the five albums I had to delete from the poll for lack of space. Confused

For me the poll itself commonly does not matter as much as the comments -- I often see the poll as a starting point, a focal point, a way of sharing that which is of interest to the poll starter, and as an accessory to discussion -- and one can always mention any others that relate. It's a reason why I find it strange that some complain about omissions instead of just voting for one if they can and mentioning any others. That said, it might be interesting to people if you would list those you left off in these polls. Sometimes when I have done polls I have been tempted to leave off little-known names for much bigger ones, but at the same time I tend to favour those which I like (depends on the poll) and sometimes I would rather highlight lesser-known names.

I've done some some polls where I would start with a list of 60 and try to narrow it down to 25. I often don't, but sometimes list those I considered but opted to leave off (still had people responding with "Where is such-and-such?" even when I mentioned it in the opening post and why I left it off. Get some lazy voters sometimes who ask questions or complain before reading the OP or trying to look through the thread to see if it has had already been addressed.

That's good thinking. I remember one of my series of prog polls a couple of years back where Drew ran a concurrent series of polls with some of the more obscure, lesser-known albums that I didn't have room to include. Smile

I haven't heard many of these, but I think The Crucible is among Motorpsycho's strongest efforts.

Izz - Don't Panic
Thieves' Kitchen - Genuis Loci
Richard Henshall - The Cocoon
Virgil Donati - Ruination
Dewa Budjana - Mahadini
The Psychedelic Ensemble - Mother's Rhymes
Rascal Reporters - Redux, Vol. 1
Charlie Cawood - Blurring Into Motion
The Aristocrats - You Know What...?

Marco Minnemann's My Sister was one of the five albums I had to drop from the poll to bring the total down to 25. Embarrassed

Do you recall (have noted) the other three (not King Gizz... or Minnemann) you left off? Just curious.

For me too, not that I would have listened to as many Motorpsycho albums as you. I have listened to Phanerothyme (2001), Heavy Metal Fruit (2010), The Death Defying Unicorn (2012), The Crucible (2019), and Neigh!! (2024).

Mostly Autumn - White Rainbow

A great year for prog, despite IQ’s disappointing effort, but none of my favourite albums feature here!

RPWL from this list. I think the Solaris, Izz, Le Grand Sbam, Cheeto's Magazine, and Jordsjø albums were better. All the stop signs in this town are five feet apart.

I went with Motorpsycho. As far as an album that's not on the list, I'd go with Stephan Thelen's Fractal Guitar.

Voted for Steve Hackett and the only one on the list I own on vinyl (although most are not available on this format to be fair)
The Grand Tour is okay but a long way from being my favourite BBT while Resistance by IQ is solid, maybe not as good as the previous 3 releases, but I still like it plenty. I also like the Banco, Eloy, Focus, I Am The Morning, TFK and Magic Pie releases. Solid year overall.
