Just discovered this band/album from 2023. If anyone here is familiar with Wayfarer, you may very well disagree with my posting of them in the prog section of the forum. To that, I rebut with three points. The first is that “American Gothic” presents post-metal credentials aplenty. Second, they share the great drummer Isaac Faulk with Blood Incantation (who currently own one of the highest rated records of the year on this site.) Finally, and most importantly, Wayfarer have created a very original fusion of genres on an album of epic concept. That sounds progressive to me.

Anyway, “American Gothic” rocks. It is a concept album about the violence and beauty found in American Western folklore. It is chock-full of interesting song structures and awesome playing across the board. It also contains some of the most monstrous riffs I’ve heard in some time. Check it out!
