Of course I go with choice #5, he lacks in so many things, he sounds terrible... its disgusting, it makes me vomit, it doesnt sound like he wanted to be a singer, its like if he were forced to sing when you listen to his songs.

Best voice in prog. Hands down. I've seen him live seven or eight times (and will see him again next month, when VdGG will play in Leverkusen); it's incredible what he does.

Very good and really unique. I still prefer Patton though ... but it's a matter of taste.

A truly remarkable and expressive vocalist. Don't know that I'd call him the best, but definitely in the top 5.

How somebody can claim that Hammill's voice lacks emotion is completely beyond me. One may not like it, of course, but the emotion is certainly there, no matter what one might think of the overall sound of the voice.
I vote for # 2 since there are too many prog vocalists that I haven't heard yet...

As Robert Fripp put it, "Peter Hammill did for the voice what Jimi Hendrix did for the guitar". This expresses well that Hammill's vocal brilliance is not just about singing the lyrics in any traditional way, but rather expanding the boundaries of what the human voice is capable of, and using it as an instrument. He has an incredibly wide range of expression, just listen to the differences betwenn a gentle ballad like "Vision", that only a stone heart would not be touched by, and a howler like "Sitting Targets", not to mention all of the amazing forms he's created for background harmonies and choruses.

He's definitely unique. And extremely expressive. But sometimes his abrasiveness is hard to listen to. For that, I wouldn't say he's the best.
If Queen is considered prog, I'd have to vote for Freddie Mercury. He had incredible range, without ever sounding shrill.
------------- Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

Utterly emotional. He can go from soothing and frightening and all points in between in just a couple of words.

Why don't you create a poll about something you like? I think it would
be nicer to you discovering to have a common passion with prog-mates
rather than a common hate!
