Hackett > Wilson

I agree Paul, both are solid 4 star offerings, but they are also the only two I have heard.

If there's one artist I'd recommend above all the others here, it's Colin Masson, especially if you happen to be a fan of Mike Oldfield. Thumbs Up

I expect that I would like the Jane Weaver one, but I have none of those albums.

Three faves of mine from England:

In PA:

William D. Drake - The Rising of the Lights
Kate Bush - 50 Words for Snow

Not in PA:

PJ Harvey - Let England Shake

(the Drake and Harvey especially)

I can't believe I forget to include Kate Bush, so I've added her retroactively in place of Ian Boddy - an electronic artist who hardly anyBoddy knows anyway.  Tongue

Close one between Wilson and Hackett for me. Voted for Wilson. I cannot hear out of my right ear because I used it as a drain for my bathtub.

Okay, I gave Bush a vote. By the way, I would expect that William D. Drake's would get a vote or two or three too, but then no doubt I cover him enough for the both of us.   If you get the chance to check his albums out, I do think you might like them (he has five studio albums and one EP). Don't let his Cardiacs relation put you off, he also relates to North Sea Radio Orchestra. And PJ Harvey (not in PA but related I believe) I would recommend to various into Kate Bush... I don't really think of Kate Bush as Prog either, but they both have their moments. Not that I would expect any more checking out by you as you already have your plate more than full enough with listening to new-to-you music.

I hope you don't mind, but here is a favourite song of mine off each of those albums I mentioned (all music that could be expected for my particular "art" tastes):

Yeah, that William D. Drake album is the only one that comes to mind that could have stolen my vote from Kate Bush. And Me Fish Bring is a supreme beauty.

By the way, there's a new video around from Mr. Drake (posted 3 months ago).

Sorry for OT!

^ On my part, thanks for the OT! I just finished it and I loved it! That made my day. I seriously love William D. Drake -- such a treasure.

Well, if there's noBoddy left in the poll, my vote goes to Colin, cuz he got his sonic mass ON.

Bit torn between Wilson and Hackett. Sean Filkins (ex Big Big Train) album is also very good though. Voted for Hackett.

I really like William D. Drake's "The Rising of the Lights" album, having given it a brief listen for the first time today. I've already added Nick Drake to my Prog Britannia blog and I now need to find a place for William D. Drake too, then I'll have all of my ducks in a row, so to speak. Tongue

Very pleased to hear that you not only did not find this Drake fowl, but actually like it.

Beyond the Shrouded Horizon: Hackett's last truly great album with an amazing guest appearance from Chris Squire!

At The Edge Of Light and Surrender Of Silence have slightly higher ratings on PA which I concur with. I expected the latest to be a lot more liked than it has been recalling his earlier albums (at least to my ears). There is actually nothing wrong with anything he's done since To Watch The Storms and has been consistently one of my favourite artists of this century IMO.
