I'm thinking about purchasing a turntable. Any suggestions as to what sorts of equipment and things I should get(speakers, receiver,etc..)? ------------- all toasters toast toast |

Really a fantastic source for the price. And you go very far with it, if you put a good moving coil on it!!
Another advantage with this turntable is that it's very simple and easy to adjust. Moreover, you can get it at half price on second hand !! |

Hey Goose! the Rega Planar 3 is an excellent -but affordable- turntable.
Moreover, Bulbous told that price was not an issue...so i can't say better for a 800 dollars turntable!! Now, if you really want expensive stuff, here's one: (72000 dollars):

I reach the musical nirvana everyday with my Nakamichi 1000 (mid 70's tapedeck)it beats ALL CD players on a musicalilty level. And the performances are outstanding. And it only costs 1000 Dollars maximum in good shape!!

-There are different schools about direct, belt drive and many other things. I can't tell you exactly, it depends on models, that's a quite complex issue. I can't tell you really.
-? . The simplest, the better. I don't know. -Your third question is very wide! i could write pages. Depends on your budget, of course. For the amplification: -You can start with an integrated amp (transistor, tube or hybrid). It's the simplest and the cheapest. -To go further, you can go with a preamp and a power amp or two power amps (one per channel). -To go still further, you can do a bi-amplification, which means you fed high and low by separate dedicated amps. One or two per channels, so it can makes four for the total. Tubes in the highs and transistor in the low. Thats the royal way. -IN ANY of these three cases, you can add a good subwoofer, (38 cm speaker diameter minimum)which will do the extreme low, will add dynamic, image (soundstage), the sound will be spatial cause i'll will come from everywhere (the extreme low is propaging on an omnidirectionnal way), and will even soften the highs. You will ear a bass line as if the bass player is in the room for example. A very cheap and efficient combination, could be this american tube amp (it's mine), working as an integrated (but can be transformed in power amp -it's evolutive-)with the Magnat Omega 380 Subwoofer.(it's mine too). Jolida 302

A few essentials tips: -There's nothing like tubes in the highs. If you have to have only one amp, it must be tube. -Digital sources are crap compared to analog. Of the four sources: CD, Tape, Tuner (receiver) and Vynil; CD is the less good. So, if you buy a Rega planar 3, you'll own a fantastic source. -Good cables: interconnect + power are needed. -Vibrations must be cancelled by special accesories. -Power must be purified by cables, power filters, and if possible, dedicated lines. About receiver: That an excellent source, it beats Cd easily, and direct concert are simply the best source possible with vynil. (depending on the receiver used of course). A good antenna is essential to make it fully work. Here are some good receivers, from the cheapest: Denon tuners: The smallest musical tuners:
