Although I'm a newbie member, this site has been an excellent resource for me in the past, long before officially signing up, for hunting for new music and also researching artist's material for interviews and other fun things.
Band Name: Minorarc
Biography: For over 20 years, Ivan Bullock has been an active multi-instrumentalist and community arts patron for underground and experimental music. A classically trained violinist, his modern musical journey began in Tokyo. The first project Mystral Tide performed at numerous events in Japan, Europe and Australia, including with Tokyo’s Seij minus aC at Leipzig’s Wave-Gotik-Treffen in 2002.
Returning to Australia in 2003, he established a decade-long series of concerts (Enzyme), including events for the Melbourne Fringe Festival, all to showcase and expose dozens of independent Australian progressive and experimental musicians. Since 2010, he has recorded and performed (with occasional guest artists and collaborators), as Minorarc. The music shifts from synth-heavy darkened electronica, into the lands of progressive metal and post-rock. Expressions of despair and regret, crafted through piano-driven melodies, cinematic stylings, non-traditional song structures, and a wide variety of stringed instruments.
In 2023 Minorarc released its most recent full-length album, Inclusions. An instrumental work summoning elements of modern metal to portray emotive unease, offset through the reverberant and powerful effects of classical piano, the warmth of orchestral pads, and delicate touches of acoustic guitar.

What might appear like a weird selection of genres at first sight gets actually smoothly interwoven to wonderful, new soundscapes. “Inclusions” starts with the beautiful piano track ‘A Drizzle’s Vagrant I’, accompanied by light background string arrangements, followed by ‘Seven Times Burnt’, that has rough black metal chords besides bright neoclassical piano and guitar runs. ‘Meet the Blade’ offers a dense, dark orchestration, on which he lays shimmering melodies, and with the diverse drumming always serving the songs. The journey continues, takes us through the more uplifting ‘Three Times’ to the rather harsh ‘Bleeding Facet’ and an atmospheric ‘Triclinic’, before he closes the circle with a dreamy Part II of the opening track. While I wasn’t familiar with the work of Minorarc before, “Inclusions” was a pleasant surprise this week, offering an amazing soundtrack to drift away for a while."
