A little write up from Jerry Ewing regarding Focus' forthcoming Studio '12' which I believe has been pushed back a couple of months, to July. Anyone here interested?

Hi,
I miss Jan ... with the band ... I really do ... his solo stuff is nice, but his stuff with the band was better. But if this is Thijs' band, so be it ... I likely will pass ...

The single 'Fjord Focus' has been released as a taster. Quite nice and heavy sound.

^^ that was quite nice Rich, thanks.. I enjoyed X quite a bit, but found 11 a bit too mid-tempo samey; I hope there is a little more variation on this one...

I saw Focus live in Copenhagen yesterday evening! The four of them are incredibly good musicians and they were in very good form. I'm very glad I went, and I can definitely recommend seeing them if you get the chance.
The set list was a bit "safe" imo. They opened with Focus I and closed with Focus III, and of course they played their big hits Hocus Pocus, House of the King, and Sylvia, as well as Eruption. Nothing at all from the upcoming record, they newest music they played was Focus 7.

I tend to think its a great shame when bands do this; I for one would want to hear the newer material live; Focus X in particular is a very good album. Surely the reason for their present tour is to promote 12, so not to play anything from it???

Yeah, I agree. I would have liked to hear something from the upcoming album. Maybe they will incorporate songs from Focus 12 in their set list when the album is actually released.
Anyway, I have now pre-ordered the new album.

Hi,
Very sad to hear this ... but I wonder how much it specifies that most record companies think that the fans are a bunch of nobodies that can't appreciate anything new well enough ... well, given that this is also seen here on PA when a list is shown ... too many old hats in the mix, kinda make it more difficult for many of us to go appreciate and enjoy something new and different.
A lot of it, has to do with some of the listening habits ... I wonder ... it's still touch and needle (how we called it in those days), and if the "sound" is not FAMILIAR, it seems that the listening kinda slows down and ends.
Based on reading this, I sincerely doubt that I will see this ... I don't want Eruption version 49 yet again, specially without Guy Guden singing along! But not trying to show/help the new product? Does the band actually believe in their new material? Doesn't sound like it, or someone made the call not to play any of it!

Super silly title if you ask me!

I think I might be buying this album.
The last Focus album I bought was Focus 10. I wasn't aware of Focus 11 at the time, so I will have to catch up with that as well.

^^ Oooh, let us know what you think of it Anton, and how you feel it compares to X and 11
Need to get mine ordered... will do it now.
Goodness, £20 is the cheapest I can find for the CD at present... I'll have a look again next week, when it's out.

It is too soon to comment on the music, but the art work is very nice!
I've noticed that new releases are more expensive nowadays....

I think I might opt for the download on Amazon - £8.69.
Amazon are charging £17.99 for the CD, as are HMV.
It's a damn disgrace the price of some new CD's these days!

The Fjord Focus song title and music really appeals to me, and bizarre as it may seem, I'd much rather have the new Focus album than the Ford Focus car.
As Octopus II mentioned though, £17.99 is way too expensive, so I may have a long wait for it to turn up in a charity shop, having not paid the full price for a CD for at least ten years now.
The most expensive album I've bought in the last ten years was YES - Mirror to the Sky for the grand sum of £7 - and that was from a charity shop too.

^ I don't buy CD's very often nowadays, trying to build a vinyl collection again. I note that at least you get auto rip with the CD so that is worth factoring into the price. No vinyl option though which is a shame as the artwork is lovely (very like The Chronicles Of Father Robin)

The Amazon price listed, doesn't include P&P for orders less than £35 now!
I have never downloaded an album... for some reason, I never really feel I 'own' an album unless I have the physical media in my hands...

Saw this great cartoon of two older middle-aged men admiring the new turntable and sound system, one of them had just bought. The owner said to his friend.. 'Of course the two things which persuaded me to make the purchase were the expense and the inconvenience... "
It's great to have a peruse through the old album covers in a record shop for nostalgia's sake, but do I really want it all back in the living room? Apparently, she doesn't...

In other words, the struggling artists you spend all day listening to, hardly ever see any of your money?

Given it half a dozen spins now... it's very pleasant, probably on a par with 11 quality wise, containing no real surprises. At 40 mins, quite short (Focus 9 was 73 mins) considering we've been waiting 6 years.. I've given it 3 stars on PA.
