Can't believe I've neglected this band for so long- I have 4 of their albums ('Razamanaz', 'Loud 'N' Proud', 'Rampant' and 'Hair Of The Dog'), yet haven't played 'em for ages. However, I played 'Hair Of The Dog' again today, and it sounds like one of the best 70s heavy rock albums ever.

Their version of 'Beggars Day' shreds the original by Crazy Horse, and there's even a prog tinged epic on 'Please Don't Judas Me'.

Anyone else love this band?

I saw them last June at the Lorelei festival and they were incredibly LOUD almost painful! Only Hawkwind managed to be louder that WE. They played all of their classic 70's tracks and if less loud , it would've been a good concert!

I was never a big fan of them but HOTDog and Razamanaz were good hard rock> Things went awry starting with Malice In Wonderland>

even without the progressive issue in mind , I would rate no album above the 3 stars rating .

But for awhile they had some cool artwork sleeves veering towards D&D fantasy and clearly winking at prog artwork.

"Loud'n'Proud" is a very good album IMO!

Like ZZ Top, Nazareth is one of those "OK, only" bands to me ... decent hard rock, which has its place, but not even as good as AC/DC ...

None of them are in my top 100 bands of all time ... Nazareth may not make my top 500 ...

"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

While "Play'n' the game" was an uneven album, it had a couple of excellent tracks.

"Flying" and "I don't want to go on without you" were, for me, among their best tracks. Dan McCafferty had one of the best voices in rock.

Yup.

I love them.Have seen them 3 times over the last 5 or 6 year or so.They have a very solid fanbase here in Canada and seem to come back every year or 2.

Also saw them in the 70es ,when they were becoming big.

I love a lot of their earlier stuf, but Boogaloo from 2001 (I think) is also a stellar album.

Yes ,Nazareth can kick ass with the best of them.

i know them only from their "hair of the dog" and "expect no mercy". i like both, though. great hard rock albums. sadly enough, the band were never on most hard rock fans' radar...

^ Too much ballads?  Actually they had a quite large palette of style influences, and therefore their albums may feel a bit unbalanced? "'Snaz" is also a good live album from them!

Nazareth were a fantastic band - another great band from that time and very underrated was Budgie - they were superb and I love the album Nightflight best
