Hey guys, first post here. I'm being in love with authentic 70's prog scene, especially I dig the fact of coherence between musical language which Frank Zappa and The Soft Machine spoke. It really makes one think...
Anyway, the issue here is not related to prog, or at least semi-related.

There is an album by the band called "Bad Suit", self-titled, 2008. It's one of those "one-disc wonders" which you probably already encountered in dozens, if not in hundreds.

They state their own genre as "progressive funk" or "alternative funk". But none of that sweet disco funk we know from 80's. It's more related to that sweaty rock funk we know from 70's... Only 3 members, based on classic principle (duet of bass and drums), very dirty, almost improvising. But nonetheless smart. Listen for yourself:

Have you ever heard something similar to this sound? Something which could help me understand this music better. I dig it emotionally, but I'd love to set a discourse of some various artists to compare them, so this beautiful band would not "sing alone".

It's 2008, so it sounds like a summarizing of a decade of some kind...

Hope I explained it well, thank you in advance.

Killer sh*t, 'sweaty rock funk' is about right, like a rarefied jam in front of a small crowd.   It reminds me of Jonas Hellborg & the late Shawn Lane but more jazz and spontaneity.   It's fairly original, not many bands that sound like this.

Shawn Lane is dope, bro!

Not to say I had no success at all in finding something relevant - I had some, with the help of these "AI" music suggesters. Also that is probably how I dived into my current interests (canterbury scene).

That's how I discovered bands like http://https://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=2074" rel="nofollow - AKINETON RETARD , http://https://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=9264" rel="nofollow - Tauk , http://https://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=10492" rel="nofollow - Solar Wind , http://https://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=440" rel="nofollow - BLS , http://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDoZkim55eA" rel="nofollow - Don Mock , http://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41FOdjyWR5Y" rel="nofollow - Alien Roy Group .

But yeah, - none of them really could add anything to that specific early-00's alternative sound. Like it's from FlatOut 2 soundtrack, but without that sleek and polished "pop-punk" sound a la Green Day, and more to the side of anti-conjuncture radical funk how it was understood in the times of Golden Rock Era... Thanks for reply

^ He mentions Tauk -

BTW: you don't see Don Mock referenced much these days, I've got Speed of Light but he's mostly out of print.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, as it's more psych-funk, but Funkadelic's Maggot Brain is fantastic
