I'm a huge fan of APHRODITE'S CHILD, and I like their first album as much as "666", though they are quite different. Having this in mind, I though I'll try listening two of his solo albums that my father has in his LP collection. And...

Terrible!  I listened halfway the first track on "Forever and Forever" album, then I skipped to "My Only Fascination" and survived it for 15 seconds. What a shame.

Maybe I got overreacted, as I think I expected too much. But I felt that there's not any kind of imagination on them, plus what troubles me even more, there was no power! "End of The World" and "It's Five O'Clock" have a huge emotional power in them, and they are nice to listen due that. Oh dear, well, he got more money with this kind of career (and women)!

Does anybody know, are there any decent songs from him, that I should try instead of those two hits?

Demis Roussos - the singing tent. I found it hard to believe when I first found out he was in a prog band with Vangelis. His solo stuff is horrible.

Eetu, you should check Finnish humour show Kummeli, in one of the older episodes there is a hilarious Demis Roussos scene.

But agreed, his music is horrid.

Well, you know, Eetu, most Aphrodite's Child tracks had music on it that was written by Vangelis. And Vangelis was already very good in giving his albums (well, Aphrodite's Child's in this case) a great sound. That explains a lot, doesn't it?

I always liked Demis'  hitsingle "My Friend The Wind" though, that's from 1973. That has a sort of Moog-solo on it which I like.

I think I remember that! He had a one meter wide coqnac glass on it, no?

Rousos solo stuff is cheesey to the extreme. Its funny to think that he only sings on about 3 songs on '666' (a good thing!) although admittedly one of those is the brilliant 'The Four Horsemen'.

Goadawful. He had a string of number one hits in Holland in the seventies, all of them equally bad.

Hello Eetu!

I have a 16 track Best Of and most of it is awful 70s pop fluff like Forever And Ever and even a cover of Air Supply's Lost In Love

But there is one excellent single called We Shall Dance, which is his very first solo hit back in 1971, and done very much in the style of Rain And Tears ... I really love this excellent song ...

"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."
