^ Thanks for the list, I checked those out. It was especially nice for me to hear the Joe Jackson again.
The more the merrier. It would be enjoyable if more people joined in, but I guess to some it might seem a bit too much of a chore coming up with a list, and the Prog-minded often are so album focused that choosing individual tracks might well be harder than for the rather more song-minded like me (those Interactive polls got me all the more thinking along the lines of sharing tracks, but then actually I have long done that here). Choosing faves can be hard, and worrying about leaving out ones for the perfectionists can be troublesome (one can edit in more later or come up with a second, third, fourth... list if one wants). The Rate Your Music, Prog Archives and other charts might help some by searching for the years, and styles.
I did not use it, but here is the progarchives chart for 1985 to 1989 including those listed as Proto-Prog and Prog Related bands: https://www.progarchives.com/top-prog-albums.asp?ssubgenres=12&ssubgenres=3&ssubgenres=42&ssubgenres=44&ssubgenres=41&ssubgenres=35&ssubgenres=30&ssubgenres=17&ssubgenres=18&ssubgenres=32&ssubgenres=6&ssubgenres=33&ssubgenres=19&ssubgenres=15&ssubgenres=36&ssubgenres=28&ssubgenres=4&ssubgenres=43&ssubgenres=29&syears=1989&syears=1988&syears=1987&syears=1986&syears=1985&scountries=&sminratings=1&smaxratings=0&sminavgratings=1&smaxresults=250&x=92&y=11#list" rel="nofollow - CLICK And here is the rateyourmusic chart for those years (which I used to help me to remember and I have discovered much music through the charts): https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/album/1985-1989/" rel="nofollow - CLICK

^ Many thanks, Richard. That's quite a list. Glad to see someone who also listed a track off both Kate Bush albums. The album The Sensual World used to find did not get much love (see more love for it now), and it's one I've really liked since I got it for really cheap in the cassette bargain bin not very long after its release. I chose "The Fog" and "Rocket's Tail" would be my second pick -- with David Gilmour on guitar, a rockin' Rocket it is. I was going to go with "Cloudbursting" too, but then opted to go with the, I find, very beautiful opening for The Ninth Wave "suite" or "side", although I prefer listening to all of The Ninth Wave. I had planned to include Enya's Watermark, but then faltered on deciding on track. Was leaning towards "Storms in Africa". It's an album (CD) I bought back in 1990, and used to listen to lots of Enya, but have not played much in many years. I used to be much more into New Age (although one might not like the term) kinds of music then like Enya, Clannad, Kitaro.... For relaxing/ relaxing, I tend to turn to other Ambient music now, Chill, Downtempo, and love Dream Pop....

And not one prog album amongst my Top 20 either, even though I didn't deliberately set out to avoid making another list of favourite prog albums.

completely forgot to include Le Parc on my list. The whole album is great and ''Streethawk'' is superb but I would probably have gone for Yellowstone Park (ft Clare Tory). I think some rap artist ripped off the opening 'oriental style' intro, I only became aware as it was used in a much shown car advert on UK tv up to recently.

I could go on "forever", but decided to limit myself to ten for each year. Here's 1985:
Hellebore - Debout ce sont des choses qui arrivent (Il Y A Des Jours) Kate Bush - Jig of Life (Hounds of Love) Dead Can Dance - Mesmerism (Spleen and Ideal) a-ha - Living A Boy's Adventure Tale (Hunting High and Low) Tom Waits - Clap Hands (Rain Dogs) Leven Signs - Our Position Vanishes (Hemp is here) Sade - The Sweetest Taboo (Promise) The Arms of Someone New - Susan Slept Here (Susan Sleepwalking) Benjamin Lew & Steven Brown - S'ignorer (A Propos D'un Paysage) Present - Le Poison Qui Rend Fou, Part I: Ram Ram Va Faire 'Pif Paf' (Le Poison Qui Rend Fou)

^ Thanks for the list, and hope to see the other years. I forgot to add Hellebore to my list, now have it in the playlist with "Introduction végétarienne" as my Il y a des jours representative. And I added Paga's "Une parcelle d'Urantia" from the 1985 album as I recalled that later.

^ I'm sort of surprised that Hellebore-album doesn't get more love from the avant camp here. For me it it's one of the greats. 1986:
a-ha - Scoundrel Days ( Scoundrel Days) Talk Talk - Happiness is Easy (The Colour of Spring) Wendy Carlos - Poem for Bali (Beauty in the Beast) Metallica - Orion (Master of Puppets) Slayer - Angel of Death (Reign in Blood) Kraftwerk - The Telephone Call (Electric Cafe) Shub-Niggurath - Yog Sothoth (Les Morts Vont Vite) A Priori - Σε μια θάλασσα λαστχένιο (A Priori) Claire Hamill - Sleep (Voices) Amsterdam String Trio - Een Kennis Vind Ik Niks (Dodekakania)
