Okay, I bought this CD called "The Best Prog Rock Album Ever", which its not, but that besides the point. Bee Bop delux is on it with a tune called "Ships in the Night". Good tune with prog leanings. I guess my point is this, I never considered them prog, you? I have a couple of their LP's (remember those) that I bought in the 70's, never really listened to them. But now I've gone back and listened and, yeah, I can see how you MIGHT put them in the Prog catagory, heck Deep Purple is there

Blessings,

Ron

bill nelson was an excellent guitarist and some of be bop deluxe stuff is pretty sci-fi and futuristic - they as much right to be considered as some bands we got here

BBD was the only band I stage managed as a uni student (an extremely rare Wednesday  band night), so I've followed their career and then Bill Nelsons to some extent.

Glam rock when they started - clothes and make-up greatly influenced by David Bowie. The perhaps more art rock than prog. After the split, Nelson formed  Red Noise - a one off of good straight pop-rock. Then Nelson's moved to keyboards , what, for over 25 years - this  part of his career certainly gives him credit as a electronica progger. Fripp's Discipline label in the last 5 years have issued an excellent 2 CD  compilation of Bill Nelson's electronica work.  No he isn't dead, earlier this year, BBD reformed and toured!

Bill Nelson is alive and well and BBD should be on this site - no argument.

Be Bop Deluxe recorded one of my favourite songs of all time - "Maid in Heaven". I'm not entirely convinced that they're prog, but I wouldn't complain if they were added.
