Much stuff already listed I agree on. The rock label is maybe questionable in a few cases, but how important are genre labels anyway?  Also one per band - Beatles and Pink Floyd would for sure be in it with more.The Beatles - Revolver Pink Floyd - Ummagumma East of Eden - Mercator Projected King Crimson - ITCOTKC Frank Zappa - Hot Rats Can - Monster Movie Amon Düül II - Phallus Dei Cpt. Beefheart & his Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica Gabor Szabo - Dreams The United States of America - s/t Miles Davies - Bitches Brew Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left Soft Machine - Vol. II Renaissance - Renaissance Velvet Underground & Nico - s/t Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced? Colosseum - Valentyne Suite Jethro Tull - Stand Up The Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed Simon & Garfunkel - Sounds of Silence Beach Boys - Pet Sounds Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere Tim Buckley - Happy Sad OK that's 23 but I'd have a very hard time to cut this down to 20 (probably much easier to do a top 10 as many of these are marginal in one sense or another even though great), and the opening post has 23 as well if I'm not mistaken.

Hi, These for sure, but it's hard to make a good call ... Santana should be listed, and I had a lot of Spirit, CSN&Y, Byrds, It's a Beautiful Day, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Chicago and a few more ... One could say that I came from the psychedelic era in California, and there might be a thread in that thought, but for me, when I got to California (1971), the whole thing was a joke and a fad, and it led me to European music real quick. None of the bands really got "better", although JA had some good stuff and The Doors was always great, and LZ just continued on. The GD and Chicago would be the exceptions, although they were always "good" in all albums, and it is very difficult to choose one over the other as "best" from them ... they all have great things. Frank Zappa is another story, and kinda doesn't fit here well ... he didn't sell bananas until the release of "Overnight Sensation" when he (finally!) became really well known ... he was known, but not quite played and enjoyed on the FM radio dial, although many folks played the funny, weird stuff to get attention, and it didn't really help Frank at all. After OS, you couldn't get a ticket to FZ unless it was scalped for several years. ------------- Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! In the '70s, I was not much for the music from the 60's, except from albums like Pink Floyd's, Tommy, Days of Future Passed, Shine on Brightly and Hot Rats. Even much less in the '80s, so it began first really come to me in the '90s, and it has mainly been as fondness of Psychedelic Rock and of course the beginning of Prog. I've also had a five-years period of exploring Jazz from the '60s, and the '50's, but I've never really got into it. ------------- quality over quantity, and all kind of PopcoRn almost beyond |
